First Park Run

Hi, I'm new to running and have signed up to a 5k event in November.

I am off for my first Park run today, I read that it is ok to walk/run, is that correct?

I can't run that distance non stop yet. Feeling nervous that I will be the only one huffing and puffing my way round.

Any advice for a newbie, only on week 4 of C25k? 😄

Parkruns are truly awesome. You will love it. They really are a mix of all runners all with their own personal aims. Yes there are serious runners. ..our parkrun is 2 laps so I always get lapped but I just admire their strength as they whizz past and carry on plodding, saying to myself "slow and steady:. I'm on week 9 but couple of weeks ago did parkrun and did my 5 minute warm up walk at beginning. Feeling a bit silly as always thought you needed to run at beginning but it was fine. I was walking quicker than some runnews. I then did my 25 minute run. The parkrun is for you to do your run/walk as it works for you. It really is an inclusive event...that is its aim. You will see buggies and dogs too. I felt nervous first time on my own but now third time out I'm feeling like an old pro. Remember why you're running and believe in the c25k programme. Take a deep breath, smile and run

Enjoy every step. X

Ps post later to say how you got on. And waiting for your result to be emailed is great. Seeing your name, position etc. is a great feeling. Real sense of achievement. Oh and the Marshalls are really encouraging and you can always find someone to chat to if you want to ...or zone out..up to you. Enjoy.

Walk... walk most of it...best to stay injury free...:)

And, although Park Runs are amazing.. at this early stage it can be very tricky! Your running legs are only just beginning to build, alongside that essential stamina and strength

Park Runs will be there when you have graduated, or at least when you are further on in the programme and can really enjoy. Sorry, if I sound a mean old party pooper...but that is just my feeling :)

So..if you go.. maybe just do the next run in your running week, warm up walk from the starting line , run/walk the set intervals and then walk the rest :)

Sound advice oldfloss I know I personally wouldn't have managed a park run in the beginning or even now at the end of wk6 . Great for having the ambition to want to take park just don't let it put u off as it will be tough going . Good luck xx
