On the road again

I've been on the elliptical trainer for 2 weeks recovering from crushing foot pain. £65 down and a second brand new pair of trainers on my feet I'm back out side. Bliss! Except.... now I've conquered shin splints and metatarsalalgia and breathing it's my ankle that's feeling the impact. Am I just too old for this? Feels like someone is trying to tell me something. I'm stuck on w6r2 and it feels like I've been doing the program forever, I keep going backwards due to niggling health issues😟. Does it ever not hurt?

Did you have your gait analysed before buying your new shoes?

How old do you think might be too old?

Hi, yes I had my gait analysis done at DW fitness, but they were rubbish, they didn't even tell me to buy a size bigger than my normal shoes! I know I'm not actually too old, only a sprightly 49 but the day job, the aches and pains and dark nights take their toll every now and then!

Gait analysis is only as good as the training and experience of the operative, so your shoes may be inappropriate. Take them to another specialist shop and get their advice.

Not everyone wears a size larger running shoe.......I don't.

As long as the shoes are right...as IannodaTruffe says.... and you are not too old .. well unless you are over 150 maybe? :)

If you are stuck.... slow right down... and then slow down more. Are you warming up well... are you doing your core strength and flex exercises and stamina exercises too on rest days?

If you are a tad older.. then they are even more important.. I have a regime.. short and sweet for every day..but have upped my exercise on rest days too :) ( I am 68 )

Start slow, stay slow... the longer runs are great... relax and breathe.. try to land lightly, what i call kissing the ground with your feet.. round those ankles and go gently... take it slowly and start to feel your own happy pace:)

Thanks oldfloss, I think you've hit the nail on the head with strengthening exercises. Will have to find time for some of those too. It's a big time commitment isn't it! And good for you for keeping at it!

Not what you're looking for?
