Hours after my run today, I have realised that I really did sprint at the end. True only the last 30sec (ish) but it was a (proper) sprint - and it felt good.
Still cant do hills lol - well did a bit more than before so suppose that's what it is about but the hills not only make me out of breath (which is OK) but make my hips & back hurt, and I know this is because I lean forward with my shoulders hunched (not good).
Actually did 3/4 of the way round the park and was surprised when I got the "work out area" that I had got that far round. Unfortunately this is followed by the hill that I still have problems walking up so another turn round and run back down lol. Still I am getting a clear idea of how I will do the Race for Life.
PS whatever route I do, I seem to end up back either at the pond or "new river" ( a aqueduct built 1613) - drawn to the water lol

Main feeling by then was that I was pissed off by not managing the hills, so grit I think but I like the wings on the new shoes idea as they are helping a lot.
It is amazing where it comes from isn't it, struggling along at the end of the run, then you see the finish line and kick off. Great way to finish a run. Well done!!
It's called "kick" - at the finish. I have found that I have plenty of it at parkrun each week - maybe because I tend to run fairly conservatively and don't usually push myself too hard. BUT - I have also discovered a lot of other people at parkrun who don't have any kick at all at the end. For some reason , it is not in them
