The pah!! - is for a casual chat with a friend yesterday - who is the same age as me ( late 40s) does not exercise and just went and ran the race for life in 28 mins!!! Here i am with my running experience of some 12 weeks - with a carefully marked out programme of runs to get me to 5k in 30 mins by the end of July- should have just run the Race for Life.
This morning did the speed podcast combined with my random hill run. Intervals were ok - but tougher than I thought. I then did a 25 min interval hill. I hate hills - so decided today to sprint them all and then do recovery jogs/walks. Quite enjoyed it actually - pain over and done quite quickly. But I am suffering a bit now - knees and hip complaining.
So my remaining goals for this week are to complete the stepping stone podcast and then get that 5k in 30 mins under my belt.
Wish me luck - happy running

Its galling isn't it. I was listening to two guys at the gym this morning taking about their 10K times, they run 10K in about the same time as it takes me to do 5K!!! Now whats that all about, why can't I do that I could ask myself, but you know what I don't. Everyone is different don't try and do the time to equal your friend, do the best you can for YOU. Its your running and if you aim too high/fast too soon you will injure yourself. Just relax and enjoy your running and your better times will appear like magic I promise. Good luck with the training.
Well, running 5k in 28 minutes, just the once, at a race for life, with all that support and cheering, is simply this: a one-off. That's all it is and not in the same league as what you are accomplishing.
Thank you all -and v sensible advise about running for me - which is what I do-I carve out the time and just do it. I do feel really pleased about what I have done so far -just slightly non plussed yesterday. Everyday in ever way I will be better runner.
