Am on week 6 of the program and currently do 5 days a week weight training at the gym split into set days ie. leg day, shoulder day etc. I have cut back on some of my daily am cardio since I started running but wondered if there was a good all round training program which complemented a runner?

Complementary training
You have a specific shoulder day?
It depends on what your goals are. Is running your focus or bodybuilding? If you are trying to build mass or strength with your 5 day routine, doing a cardio session and running is going to make it very difficult to achieve Gainz unless you are eating many thousands of calories a day. If running is your goal then 5 days a week of heavy lifting is going to leave you pretty depleted.
If you are after a more all round fitness then that is a hell of a lot of volume.
That's a lot of work for a body along with the running. You might have to ease up on a few things and aim for a more balanced workout or your body might protest.
Cycling, rowing, swimming are all good for running which you could do on your rest days. Then maybe weights three times a week instead of five?
I should have explained a bit more in my first post. I have recently lost a lot of weight after being overweight all my life and having to use a mobility scooter to get around. I ended up having very little muscle mass and a lot of skin. The idea was to build back the muscle to be stronger and fill a bit of the skin out. I have been weight training whilst losing weight so not much progress but I enjoy it. Have recently put a stone on on holiday and prefer myself with it so want to fill out a bit muscle wise, lose the belly fat and tone up. I also want to strengthen around my knees which seems to be a problem area. Oh and next weeks lottery numbers as well 😉
