Hi. Im knew here but decided to give it a go. Im in week 3 park run. I do it twice a week aswell..getting there slowly but surely. What i would like to ask everyone..has anyone suffered with their knee(s). Sonce my last park run it does not feel right. Its quite painful on my knee..just below my knee. Shooting pains dwn my leg. All swollen cannot bend..without pain relief its a struggle to walk. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

I'm no expert, but I really think you need to rest the knee and get it looked at. Have you done the couch to 5k programme ? I only ask as it's set up to increase your times gradually and build up the strength in your muscles and ligaments to help prevent injury. I hope it's simply that you need to rest and build up gradually - good luck!

Thank you Biscuit 0107 for taking the time to reply. The couch to 5k is exactly what i am doing at the moment..so many mins running n then recovery with walking etc. I was fine the first week n half but i must have done something bse my knee hasnt been right. I did the same Thurs evening ( part of the programme) with strong pain relief and a support. Will be going to the docs Mon for sure. Im gutted to say the least because i really want to go this morning. Going to try and keep my leg raised today. Thanks.

Ouch! That sounds very sore indeed. As no one on here is qualified to diagnose over the Internet, I'd suggest you see a doctor or a physiotherapist as soon as you can to get some professional advice.

I had a lot a trouble with my knee when I first started running and initially ignored the problem until I was in too much pain to either run or walk without pain relief. Eventually I found a physio with an interest in running who not only cured the problem but taught me how to avoid it recurring in the future. It was some of the best money I ever spent.

Please take care and get some proper medical advice before running again. Good luck

Hi Ancient mum. Thanks for the replying to me. It is very sore and its driving me up the wall. Going to try and keep it raised today but with 2 kids one being 8yrs and always on the go makes it diffcult. Just feel guility and annoyed at myself. Omg bless you sounds like you was in a lot of pain. So glad you manage to sort it though and everything is ok. If i dont get much luck at the docs come Min then i will seek a private physio. If you dnt mind me asking..but what sort of excercise did the physio provide for you?

Thanks again and take care.

My physio was so great. As it happens, I posted the exercises he gave me on here. If you search 'essential quad strengthening exercises' you'll find my original post from about 2 years ago, complete with photos of how to do them. The standard charge for a private physio is between £35-45 per session and it really is worth it. I had acupuncture, massage and ultrasound treatment as part of each session, as well as advice on different exercises etc. Doubt I'd be running now if it wasn't for him. Hope you manage to get some rest x

Hi Ancientmum.

Sorry for the late reply the joys of having children. Aww thankyou for the info. Will be searching for those exercises come tomorrow. I said to my husband im going to the doctors come Mon and will seek a private physio as it does sound worth every penny n esp if i can get back to my training. Its been very painful today and its very swollen. I have felt guilty n annoyed at myself bse i havent been able to do anything to do. So glad it worked for you thou and fingers crossed it will for me too. Thankyou again xx
