Week one, run one....

...just this morning went well, I couldn't find anyone to run with (even the dog went home when it started raining!) but I've just read loads of everyone's posts so I'm hoping that'll give me the peer support I'm after.

Hi Pam, well done for starting C25k. Don't worry Laura will be your running buddy... she will help you though it. You can't really run with anyone as you have to stick to your own pace which should be slow and steady. Don't feel that you have to go quickly on these first runs just a light jog is all thats required. It is fun doing the program even though it is tough, it's always worth it when you have completed a run successfully.

Good luck on your next outing and everyone on here will be rooting for you.

:)

Thank you, that's really kind, it hadn't occurred to me the different paces would be a problem.

Welcome aboard Pam !

Laura will be your best friend for the next 9 weeks :-)

Keep going, slow and steady is the way :-) xxx

I suspect I may hate her after a bad run! But yes, she was easy enough to follow this morning :o)

That is impossible; at the end of a run you are so full of endorphins that you love everyone on earth... *especially* Laura, for having pushed you to the end :D

Welcome and may the miles flow below for feet!

Well done on starting. I took the dog with me on my first outing (a greyhound) but I had to loop back home to drop him off because he had no stamina!

Good luck with run 2 and keep checking in. Everyone here will support you every step of the way x

Hi Pam,

Well done on your first run and welcome to the C25K family! I ran last night so managed to miss the weather, but it ran through my mind earlier of all those who are doing their runs today.

This forum is great for support and encouragement we'll keep you going no worries.

Laura is great, not too sure about her choice of music, and she'll get you through the course no probs.

Keep us posted on your progress..

in reply tosaul01

Ha! I thought she had a dodgy taste in music too :o) It started ok, then went a bit happy clappy...is it the same every week?

What the weather? Haven't got a clue 😅 only joking. Pretty much so I'm afraid. There is also an app available which allows you to use your own playlist both on IOS and android.

I started using from week 7 onwards.

in reply tosaul01

Fab, I suspect much more subliminal "you can do it" might have been overkill, will investigate the app :o)

Fantastic Pam. I am on week 1 too. In fact I've been on it for about two and a half weeks. However I have to say that today the runs were dead easy and I am definitely ready to move onto W2.

And I am a really fat old crock by the way!

Well done Sarahcyn! Enjoy W2 :)

Brilliant! (I read that wrongly for a sec, thought you'd put "I'm a fat old crock TOO" and resolved to change my profile pic ;o) We won't be any fatter by week 9 I guess...!

Haha! That made me laugh... when you said even the dog went home! Extra points for you there I think. Lots of us run alone but you will find plenty of support here, so welcome and happy running :)

in reply tohilbean

Thank you, it's really great to hear everyone else's stories. I think the dog was just bored and confused about why I was running up and down the same lane (I hadn't read the plan, so I thought we'd be doing 5 mins walking, and only one minute of a run, then go home....you can imagine my horror to find out I had to repeat it EIGHT times!)

Haha :D That first run is definitely a step into the unknown isn't it! But at least you have a better idea now of what to expect next time ;)

Well done Pam. I have just started reading this page and deciding whether to bite the bullet and go for week 1 run 1. This conversation has made me laugh and made me want to go for it. Wish me luck!! Sue

Brilliant! We'll try and keep each other going :o)

Welcome on board Pam, we are in summer here so weather hot. When I started running last year (I usually go very early in the morning) I always took the dog so he could have a good run in the beautiful fresh air before people or the ranger got up, but he is getting old so now I tell him to watch the house and keep an eye on hubby.

You will love the running Pam and Laura takes you through easily. It is an amazing program

Great job on your first run of the programme! As you can see, everyone here is really lovely and encouraging. I always stretch before and after going out for a run, as I didn't on the first run and was then incredibly sore and achey for two days afterwards! Anyway congratulations on starting the programme, keep posting to get lots of encouragement and advice from newbies and graduates alike =]

I know everyone has mentioned that laura will help motivate you but I also find certain songs keep me going better than others - so much so I have a running playlist of really upbeat songs, sometimes if the chorus starts mid run I will go faster :)

although that's if you are listening to the app instead of the podcast and you can have your own music

in reply tohydrogirl

Thank you! I def need to look into a change of music, any idea if the apps work on other smartphones? I like "roar" Katie Perry, Taylor swift "shake it off" and stuff like that for the gym, have you got any you've found work well for the fast walk bits?

hydrogirl in reply to

Good song choices! I have the nhs app and the c25k app it's orange and by zenlabs fitness I use the c25k more as it can link to myfitnesspal

For songs I like muse and other rocky or indie stuff although I find foster the people pumped up kicks, willy moon yeah yeah yeah, etc are good for walking, tho I love indie pop from when I was younger like the killers etc. Depending on what smartphone you have I would play around with songs and screen shot one of u like it or skip till you have an idea of songs that really work for you

I'm not sure what apps work for all phones unfortunately
