Week one, run one...

I've been lurking on here for inspiration for a few days and decided that this morning was THE BIG DAY. I crawled out of bed straight in to my jogging bottoms and before I had time to register what was going on I was RUNNING! I'm only 28, but I'm pretty overweight and am constantly ashamed of my lack of fitness when compared to my elderly relatives, so figured it was time to do something about it. I've also had some health problems over the past year which I'm sure will be helped by getting some more exercise. Anyway, it transpires that I CAN run (very slowly!) for a minute without stopping, which was frankly news to me! I honestly can't imagine running for 30 minutes without walking, but hopefully in nine weeks time I'll be here announcing that I managed just that :) thanks for sharing your stories on here - it's all inspirational reading!

Yay! Well done you! That's the hardest step you know, that first run, so give yourself a massive pat on the back. None of us could imagine running for 30 minutes, but trust the programme, don't skip sessions or rest days, and you'll get there xx

Haha, my absolute priority today is getting some running socks - despite having lovely new gait-analysed shoes, I've got a blister right on the arch of my foot. But I will not be stopped!

Running socks are great, you won't believe the difference they make, like running on marshmallows. Well done on getting proper shoes before you started, I didn't and got injured. Oh, and the law of the forum is you have to post a pic of those shoes, we love drooling over shoe-porn...

When I get home tonight I'll get right on the shoe porn, then! My old ones were those ridiculous destabilising reebok ones which claim to tone your bum as you move: I couldn't understand why my ankles were murder every time I wore them. The man in the running shop just raised his eyebrows...apparently they're not a sensible choice for any exercise, and my bum is no smaller!

Go Outdoors do some great trainer socks as I have discovered.

Go, go, go!!! Those first steps are the hardest. I wish I had discovered running at the age of 28.........it will change your life.

Running socks _ I have just invested ina coupelof pairs of Karimor runnign socks via sportsd....

I was actualyl suprised how good they are. A tad pricy maybe comapred to standard white sport socks, but youcan buy four pairs (I think) for a tenner..

And well Iwent back and bought a couple more pairs...

Oh and very well done on your first run!!

I, and no doubt many others, were in exactly the same place at the beginning of our c25K journey - I wouldn't have ever dreamed of being able to run for 28 minutes ( currently week 8 ) let alone 1 or 2. But here I am, along with others - absolutely no reason you can't do it too. Best thing I have learned is as long as you are out there trying you are doing more than a person sitting on a sofa !! You CAN do it.

Well done - you've done the hardest bit!

We all started where you were ( but more that twice your age in my case) and we did it! You'll do fine.

Woop woop well done you! That's the hardest step, now you just need to stick with it and you'll be running 30 before you know it 😊 I started c25k in September last year, it's a lovely time to be out running. Enjoy it, and good luck for the rest of the week (and beyond!) 🏃🏼

My advice on socks is, if your feet are at the top end of the size range, get the next size up cos they shrink! :)

Well done on getting started - happy running!
