That was the challenge today. A very wet, miserable day. Me shorts and t-shirt, Garmin, Trail shoes and music.

So I went and I conquered. I have managed to get under 30 mins for 5K again. 5.01 in 29:26 to be precise. I know it's not about the speed but coming back from injury when you know you've been quicker it is really frustrating and I won't accept I can't get back to where I was and better. I also got a new VO2 Max of 41 which is heading in the right direction.

How did I celebrate? Well with a 5 mile dog walk of course. As you can see Rico was a bit bedraggled after the walk.

Other changes of note in the GF household: Mrs GF is doing her own run walk thing and has been secretly since March. A friend of mine shopped her to me. My 18 year old daughter is following a plan 26 miles in 26 weeks! Sounds tough to me. Her current time is 2.75 miles in 31 mins so has some way to go and it must be hard to acknowledge her Dad is quicker (at the moment) but I am delighted she is taking up running.

It's brilliant that we will all be fitter tomorrow than we are today.

Feeling fantastic now. And have a day off tomorrow as well.

Happy Running all

GF

Wow, nice one GF sounds like you are becoming a family of fitness fanatics. Having said that, Rico looks like he would prefer just to have his stick in front of the fireplace.

Your not wrong Dunder he's now snuggled down on his mat cradling his stick (of the day)!

Great great post GF and answers my question about how you're getting on. A sub30 5k is pretty good going whilst you're carrying an injury but I'm sure you will get back to where you were eventually.

Sounds like your whole family are hooked. You are indeed the GettingFitter family. Both my girls tried running, both left me for dust, but neither of them really enjoyed it. However my husband says he'll come with we when I eventually get back out there again. Not bad for a man with 3 bouts of knee surgery behind him. :)

Sounds like your husband is straight out of Monty Python - 3 bouts of knee surgery - tis nothing but a scratch, a mere flesh wound LOL

Well done GF!!!! It's getting back to former fitness now, and your mood is doubtless improved now that things are back on track.

I had an awful run this morning. Failure to plan properly meant I was running 10 k on just a banana before I hit the streets. It was cold and windy and peeing it down so I donned my compression top, long pants and running jacket. I was boiling after a few kms. The rain was pouring down which was blessed relief and I had to take my jacket off. Ran out of gas completely so no dash for the finish line today. Slowest 10 k I've done for ages, and it should have been a fast one. Oops

Good to hear you should soon have some company on your runs, other than Rico that is.

Thanks MW. I ran with just a small orange juice (plus the beers last night) so it was good when I finished ;-)

Good to hear your getting back into the groove GF. What device do you have to give you VO2 Max? I feel some gadget envy coming on!

That's great to hear that you're improving post-injury. And fantastic that the family is running as well - what a nice thing to share.

Love Rico and the big stick. I'm sure he appreciated the celebratory dog walk.

GF how fab to see you back again and going so well too after your little holiday on the IC! Great time after your absence and how inspiring to see your wife and daughter getting hooked into running too. And I can't not mention Rico. Muddy legs but happy. Just like us really.
