At the beginning of September I had never run and was an ex-smoking 54 year old couch potato. When I first started C25K I always had running a 10k as a long term goal... now four and a half months later I've done it.
Since my graduation at the end of Oct I have been running 3 times a week and the majority of runs were 5k. I've had my ups and downs and spate of bad runs. Recently I started to go a bit further with a few 7 & 8k's. Lucky to say i have no injuries so I thought today may be THE day. Planned a longer route and decided that if I needed to stop and walk home then so be it (listen to my body). I also decided to take a few walking breaks during the run. Well... due to the really strong winds and extremely muddy tracks these walk breaks came in useful.
My time might have been really slow, but I was still running at the end. I hope that I can take this as my first 10k even though I had a few walk breaks
All those people just starting out... please please trust the program... you will not be disappointed.
Happy running... big big smiley face

i have some catching up to Your success will spur me on so thank you Andy enjoy the rest fof your weekend
couch to 10k in 4 months (and a bit) is awesome. I'm hoping I can do a 5k parkrun in the same sort of timescales, maybe I should aim a bit higher! Well done.
Wow, well done Andy! I am sure it will take me much longer to get to the 10k mark. Planning to stick at the 5k for a while until it becomes easier and then I'll see about getting out there for longer periods
Andy that is BLOOMIN' BRILLIANT! COngratualtions to you. You've done it exactly right - gradually increasing the distance, and then....BOOM! I did exactly the same thing......only thing is it took me a year of running 5K - 8K's to get the va va voom to do it! So pleased for you.
Thanks so much for the comments, it means a lot to me Just back now from a celebration coffee and muffin
I know I'm not that quick, but perhaps that is something that I can work on in the future as its good to have some goals.
Looking forward now to my Chi running seminar next weekend... I'll report how that goes. As I have never run with anyone else it will be interesting to see if I can improve my style and perhaps not plod so much.
Oops my comment is missing quite a bit.... so will keep this short and hope it posts. well done Andy you must feel over the moon.I am just trying to get 5k done but would like to tackle 10 at some point so thanks for the encouragement as well!!
Well done! 10 k is the dogs wotsits of runs i reckon. I love running them as they make it worth the time you spent getting geared up. As someone who is slow to warm up, i appreciate the longer distance
Now you have that one under your belt your running will really open up for you. Just take care of yourself as the last thing you need at this point is an injury
Enjoy your chi running thing. A run with others is great as it's something of an affirmation of what you've been doing all these weeks and months.
Excellent result! I graduated nearly 6 months ago & the furthest I've been so far is 8.33km. Weather conditions permitting I'm hoping to get to the magic 10k soon. I'm a very slow runner but right now I'm more interested in getting to 10k then maybe looking at the pace
Know exactly how you feel Sharon, I'm slow as well and have preferred distance over pace. You are so close now with your 8.4k that I'm sure you could do it! Go for it
Inspirational as always, just returned from my worst run since starting c25k, and read your post. Glad you state you had some bad runs too, your post gives hope to us all.
Andy I'm so thrilled for you, that is amazing!!! The time doesn't matter. There are loads of us on here who will never give Mo a run for his money, but we can rightly call ourselves runners. I hope you smile all day, because you really deserve this terrific moment.
Just seen your post Andy, well done sir, that's great
I'm more interested in distance than speed too. If the speed improves too then that's a bonus, but I'm just happy to gradually increase the length of time that I can run for.
