Today I have completed my first ever 10K after completing 5kto10k by active.
I started couch to 5k last October being brand new to running at the age of 50 !
After week 1 of couch to 5k I thought it was hell ๐ but was determined not to give up . After graduating I was not quite at 5k in 30 minutes but after a few consolidation runs I made it under the magic 30 minutes.
I then turned to park run and have completed that 11 times and also volunteered too, that is great fun and would recommend to all
So I wanted some structure again so started the 9! Weeks of the active 5kto10k which is 3, runs a week . I really enjoyed it and managed 8.9k in the 60 minutes and the 10K in 1. 07 which I was pleased at due to the driving wind and rain โ๏ธ!
So if you are looking past 5k give it a go . If I can do it anyone can ๐

I didnโt... but then when I first mentioned running to someone, they laughed and said I wasnโt capable of a marathon... so theyโll be put in their place... then back to parkruns ๐
I still haven't completed the magic 30 for 5k the nearest I got is 37:55. I've only completed the 30 on my graduation day from couch to 5k that was back in July. Just lately I've been thinking of upping my runs but it's a confidence thing for me. I've done 3 parkruns so far now next Saturday be doing the race for life muddy run. Also like to congratulate you on your 10k.
Itโs not easy to do it in 30 minutes I did a 28 something a few weeks after graduation and then 29โs but Iโm around 31 at the minute. Donโt worry too much and yes try upping the distance they say Ito so it by 10% . Good luck with your muddy run they are fun ๐
I have signed up to do the Great Scottish 10k Run next week and this is great inspiration!! I have fallen off the band wagon this week. I think I was over-running and my body was telling me to stop. But after 5 days rest, and after seeing this post I will definitely head out this morning for a run.
You have done so well! and such a great speed. I am a slow runner, so I am aiming to complete the race in 1:30.
Thatโs brilliant I am not ready for a proper run yet but may try it one day . Glad my post has spurred you on to get back out there . I surprised myself On the time a bit . Good luck with it and you will smash it ๐๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
Fantastic well done ๐ keep going you can do it and donโt worry about times just get to the 5k . Try park run if you can when you feel ready itโs great fun and free !
Thank you for sharing as it is truly inspiring. You worked hard and came a long way during last year. Congratulations! And it looks like you had a lot of fun as well
I am impressed and shocked that it takes "only" 1 year and that maybe, just maybe I could run 10k before end of next year. Being at week 3 for I think 5th time or so, it seems impossible. But hey, nothing is impossible. I like running and I used to hate it.
Question: did you have any breaks in running? Holidays? Illness? Or is it a whole year of running 3x per week?
It is incredible what you can do when you put your mind to it . You definitely can do it and the programmes are brilliant so much structure that definitely helps me . I didnโt have any breaks and I even ran on holiday which is another new thing which I loved discovering new places I went to Croatia ๐ญ๐ท it was very hot but getting up early to run was great . I am the same as you didnโt really like it at first ๐ I always have a constant battle in my head wanting to stop but keep on at it ! Enjoy your running
Oh wow, for now I cannot imagine myself running during holidays. I have planned one in December. I will have a think about it. First I need to "survive" till December
One step at a time.
Good luck with all your future runs and happy running! Write to us from time to time
Take your trainers hotels are always happy to help with routes I just went out the day before to have a look and then went for it not long distances but felt good . The main thing is to enjoy ๐
Me and my partner are planning to go to Costa Rica (probably several destinations). I just cannot imagine myself waking up an hour before my partner to go for a run, shower, and then to go together for breakfast Apart from the lazy days we planning in the beginning of our holidays.
It will be my first trip across the ocean. I am so excited But I still have loads to prepare - starting from buying flight tickets and booking accommodation
Congratulations! I did a few 5k consolidation runs first . I think the idea is to increase distance by 10% . My advise is donโt worry about times just run ๐ good luck
