I've been back a week from a 2 week holiday in Egypt. I ran the first week, once along the beach. Now that was hard work. Then along the road but was too hot, so decided to stick to the treadmill which was a lot better. The 2nd week I just could not get into it as I had started smoking again, ( I know, stupid) bloody cheap cugarettes).
I've been out once since home. I could barely run 8 minutes before halting to a walk. All I can think of is it's the smoking.
I am going to try and run today. Starting with 1 min walk, 2 min run repeating this 7 times. Hopefully by the end of week six I'll be running 10k.
Hope you are all well

I think it's always tough trying to get back into the pre holiday running routine. I certainly find it difficult, even if I've done a bit of running whilst away.
I have to give myself a bit of a talking to. Coukd this help with you too?
You've been away, had a good time, had a different routine. Drunk, eaten, smoked, or whatever. Now put all that behind you and get back to your running. Don't dwell on the naughty bits.
I've tried giving my self a good talking too when I went out and tried running. My head won and my legs have in. Grrrr
Hopefully today with a 10k plan in my mind I will start getting back into it. I'm going shopping first to give myself a little motivation, see if that helps.
It was a fabulous beach, I was surprised at how many holiday makers were out running in Egypt.
I was naughty and bought 400 back, which was good for me as I normally fill my suitcase ha ha so I was sort of being good I only bought 200 back for me and 200 for someone else but the someone else did not ending up getting them opps
Welcome back. Sounds like you had a good holiday. I'm sure your underlying fitness is still there and will come back sooner than you think. Don't worry about it too much and remember it's okay to walk. Run a bit, walk a bit and it will come back to you. Good luck
Sorry to hear you're back on the fags. I think you're completely mad! Sorry to be blunt but I can't understand why someone who wants to run would leg themselves up by smoking, I just can't. It's perverse.
I'd get rid of them fags TODAY. It'll be the best thing you ever did. You owe it to yourself and your future good health
Welcome back B. I have been wondering how you are. What a gorgeous beach. Hope you had a wonderful holiday. Right you have a plan...good stick to it. Try and cut the fags out again. You know you can do it. Keep posting on how you are getting on. You will get there again, you know you can xxx
I think travelling takes it's toll even if you are having a nice time. And the heat and humidity that we are not used to in UK saps your energy too. Well done for getting out there, running on sand is hard isn't it! Give yourself a bit of time to "catch up with yourself" You'll be back where you were in no time (BTW I'm a smoker too, not many, 6 or so a day, but rollies, not tailor made - they have all kinds of horrible stuff in them)
Welcome back m'dear. As an ex-smoker myself, all I can suggest is that you either give those ciggies away or trash them. By the time you've smoked 400 of the b*ggers you'll be well and truly knackered. When we stop smoking it's like being an alcoholic, we can never ever have another cigarette. Just one will re-trigger all those nicotine receptors in our brains and whoops, we're addicted again. Just dump 'em, because the more of them you smoke, the harder it'll be to quit for good. Just do it! You know you want to.
Hi Belindauk sorry to hear that you are back on the fags... quite surprised after all your hard work, that you have restarted this bad habit... as a ex smoker I know how easy it is to fall into the trap.
I would suggest that you go back to the time when.you first started running... did you feel good? when you smelt somebody who smokes how did you feel? anybody who has smoked knows that the urges only last a few seconds.... you have done it before..... 400 ciggies? give them away & maybe restart Couch to 5K to get your fitness back....
temptations eh , what happens on holiday stays on holiday hope you get back into the swing fo things soon and back to enjoying running
it is so tough, well done on what you have done, hold onto that. I totally agree, quitting smoking is easier said than done...have you tried the NHS free texts???
I agree with lots of MissW & ancient mum, you seem to miss your previous form, understandable after a holiday & we all deserve a break. But if you really want to get back in track ditch those fags!!! You know you have to. I lovd the pic of the beach, but a more positive image for now would be those fags in the bin. Not easy, but as juicy ju says maybe get some help from nhs, etc. visualise the life & body you want, does this picture involve smoking a fag.. ? I hope you feel back on track again soon, I'm sure you can do it x
I think cutting down is too half way house. You have to ditch completely. To give them away would just be doing damage to someone else. I'd burn em. I had a load of gaspers in the house for Christmas when I finally did quit. Boxes of 50 Embassy. I chucked the lot and never smoked another, ever. It would be the best day's work you ever did!
Firstly, congratulations on telling us all here about your holiday and consequential slippage in running. If you didn't want us to act as your conscience, then you never would have told us.
Secondly, you did C25k to get fit and there is no better way for most mortals to come to understand the effect of their own actions on their fitness. You exercise, eat and drink sensibly and you notice an improvement in your health and performance. After giving up smoking and then reverting while on holiday you have immediately noticed the detrimental effect on your performance.
We are not here to preach, but so many of us have felt such an improvement in our health by maintaining the running habit, alongside healthy eating habits etc., that we can't imagine giving up those benefits for a short term gratification. Hence the vehemence of MissW in her opinion.
Belinda, the decision is yours, but you must know that it makes no sense at all to continue smoking. I will be 59 next month and will have been running for 18 months by then. I am fitter now than I have ever been in my life, more confident about myself physically, happier and mentally stronger. At my age all that is too precious to give up. I hope you make the right decision.
Hey Team B ! Glad to hear that you had a great holiday, running on the beach, sunshine hey, you cant beat it can you ?
Sorry to hear about the fags, I can understand where youre coming from. Holidays are about relaxing and when we smoked that was all part of the relaxing wasn't it , but that's the power of addiction .When were relaxed we had a cig, when we were stressed , we had a cig. Happy ? Have a cig. Sad ? Have a cig and so on etc.
Its mad, but my workmate who is a smoker has just come back from Bali, cigs there were 80 pence for twenty ! When she told me, a little part of me wished I still smoked so I could've taken advantage of how cheap they were !! How mad is that ???
I could go back to smoking tomorrow, but if I did, I wouldn't be able to run anymore , and I know what I want more . I love running and I just couldn't imagine my life without it now.
You will do it B, just say NOPE ( Not One Puff Ever )
