Hi! I started w1 d1 today and found It really tough. I'm not the fittest person any way. But looking for tips to help me out thanks
Just started!: Hi! I started w1 d1 today :) and... - Couch to 5K
Just started!
We all found it tough and the best advice that we will probably all give you, is to run really, really slowly. The temptation with those shorter runs is to start off too quickly but the slower you go the better. Make sure you take the rest days and come to the forum to let us know how you are getting on. If you can find someone on here that is just starting out too, it really helps to have that virtual running buddy to encourage you along.
Enjoy your running, trust the programme and Laura x
Best of luck with it, keep going ! Great advice from Runningknitter re keeping your pace slow.
Celebrate your successes - no matter how small. Notice things like how your recovery improves, your mood improves, you run a little bit further, you go out and run in the rain, etc. You'll be amazed at how fast you improve and the everyday gains you make.
I was in the same position as you I found it really tough and experienced pain in my ankles and shines, I am now on week 2 still finding it difficult but the pain has eased a bit and I am determined to continue.
I find logging on here and getting advice helps me, I was told at the start that it was not going to be easy but stick in, so same advice to you stick in listen to the pod casts they do help.
Good Luck.
You've done the hard bit - you got off the couch and went out and did it!!! When I started I was two stone overweight and did no exercise at all. Now I can comfortably run 5k in just over 30 minutes, have just started park runs and two other classes every week. I've lost weight, toned up and feel brilliant! the best bit is comments from friends telling me how good I look and how I've inspired them to try it too! Keep going, listen to Laura and you'll be fine!!!!
I thought I really was going to die on that first outing and the second one wasn't much better due to the muscle pain from the first attempt but after that it started getting a little bit easier. My advice would be to set yourself a routine for three days of Laura a week e.g. Monday, Wednesday, Saturday or whatever suits you and stick to it. Even if you have to do some sessions more than once the discipline really helps. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
You've taken the first bit step and got off that sofa every week is a challenge but aslong as you take it slow and steady and not about speed as the others have said you will do it.
I felt the same as many others did, use this forum to help you along, everybody here are amazing people they are so supportive.I you can so do this, good luck!
Do what Laura says, when she says it. Hang on to her every word and always complete the run
Put a smile on your face and keep it there. Bring in on!
Let us know how you get on. There are others here in your position and you can compare notes. Go slowly ! Run/walks exercise bits of your body that might not be used to it and it can make you ache, which is understandable, so keep it slow and you'll get round
Have fun!
I was always concerned that getting fit again would kill me, but I agree with all of the above. I don't think any of us found the first few runs easy and I was overtaken by a pigeon that was walking uphill not too long ago : o If ever you feel like you are not making progress just do W1R1 again and see how easy it feels. When ever I feel down about my lack of progress I just do that run to remind myself how far I have come.
C25K is meant to be a challenge so rise to it and don't worry about your first few runs being difficult - if you persevere you will soon see results and then you will become an addict like the rest of us!
