Wk 8 run1 yesterday but my lace came undone and I had to stop to do it up. Carried on but gave up at 16minutes or so. Too hot, too tired, too 'head not in the right place'.
My lovely husband bought me a Garmin for my birthday when I was having radiotherapy and I was convinced that what with the vile surgery and treatment I'd never run again. Lovely son came with me for a few walks in the summer so that he could show me how to work it.
So, set off with it on but kept glancing at it to see what time I was doing. Probably not a good idea as maybe I was making myself run too fast and so far I've been blissfully unaware of my speed whilst redoing C25K. And it was really muggy here yesterday. Plus I was seeing the oncologist today so perhaps that wrong-footed me.
Have been struggling to get out 3x wkly at the moment- (busy, busy) which won't help with the stamina thing. Never mind, onwards and upwards! Meanwhile I'm leaving the Garmin behind until I complete C25K again! Will take a leaf out of Dan's post this week about running slooooooooowwwwwly. Thanks, Dan; a timely (chortle!) reminder!

The mind is very strange isn't it? If you find it has the opposite to the desired effect, then definitely leave it at home. Having worked out how to make Mapmyrun operate, I set it off on the phone and leave the phone safely zipped up in my running belt. That way I can look at how I did when I finish without having to look and see how I'm doing in transit, if you see what I mean. If I don't like what it says, I just delete it! Cushti!
Sounds like you're doing brilliantly though, after a rotten shock healthwise. Just keep doing what you're doing, and you'll soon be back doing that sub 30min 5k. I, on the other hand, am very, very slow!
I do exactly the same with Map My Run...although I don't delete anything, even if I am miffed with today's run! Where did you get your running belt from - Amazon?
I like this. Mapmyrun on the phone sounds good. I got a cheap and cheerful belt from Sports Direct but I got a super duper one for my sister who's very keen and trendy. It's called Fleetfoot and fits loads more stuff than my little belt!
Aha -sounds like a good plan! I had Cardiotrainer on my phone which No.2 son put on for me but I didn't get on too well with it so maybe try Mapmyrun?! I like the idea of deleting stuff that I don't like the look of!
I think that perhaps I shoild just go back to beig content to being able to run for 30mins rather than speed. I was ecstatic last year when I ran for 20mins for the first time. (I won't tell you what I called Laura when I told my husband what she'd just told me to do!) Tra la la.......It'll be better next time!
By the way; good luck on your last run. May your blisters disappear as if by magic!
I always take the Garmin but only have it on heart rate. I use it to keep my pace to <70% of max (Which is the recommended slow pace). I am actually quite good at gauging it now, but it is amazing how easily it creeps up without you realising, which generally means your pace is sneaking up.
Thanks, Rignold! My Garmin doesn't do heart rate (I don't think, anyway) but I'm sure that I ust have been going too fast. And anyway, I realise now I was just being pathetic. Tomorrow is another day and all that!
Sometimes a run seems to be good at helping you leave everything behind, and other times it is really hard to push everything away. Can you wear the Garmin, and just try and ignore it? I got hot and tired today too....I think it was one of those days today. Good luck with your next run xx
I think you're quite right, it was just one of those days and I was just not in the right frame of mind. I think wearing the Gramin is just too tempting to look at it. And you're right too, it's been really pretty warm and muggy.
........Ahhhhh!! Eureka moment....! I could of course set the Garmin up and put it in my running belt. That's another plan!
