After advice from the lovely people here I paid close attention to keeping my pace slow and steady from the off ( averaged a mere 7 min per km pace) and just kept going till the wonderful command to slow to an easy walk to cool down.
5 runs left to go

Hang on there kermit81 "averaged a mere 7 min per km pace" now when I went to school 7 x 5 = 35, that's 5K in 35 minutes and by most peoples standards that's a pretty fast time for a new runner. Be proud of that speed you are doing very well believe me. Once you have completed the 9 weeks you can then set your new goal to increase your speed and distance. Trying to go too fast too soon often ends in injury you are being sensible in taking it steady you are building up strength and stamina with each and every run which you will benefit from in the long run (no pun intended). Good luck, enjoy your last few runs
I am probably out of touch with what counts as standard pace then as I work with a lot of very good runners and no beginners so my benchmarks are off a little.
I am content for now to just get through the runs at any pace I can manage, the pace should increase naturally as my weight drops and my fitness increases
