Help! My Hip Hurts.

I graduated back at the beginning of March, couch to 5k has changed my life. But just as I finished I sustained a hip injury, it's driving me insane! I can't run properly without my hip KILLING ME. Running is the only thing that gives me a buzz. I need to stay on track, I need to stay motivated. I've started eating junk now that my morale is down and none of this is doing my mental health any good.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love some help with what it could be? It's on the front inside of my hip.

Thanks!

I think you need it looking at. A chiro or physio would be my first stop, or a GP.

Why eat junk? Runners don't do junk so pack it in!

I had a dodgy hip but that was down to my being too fat. I ditched the lard and started running. My hip seems to be fine now. When I think back on the hell it gave me I could kick myself.

Don't delay in getting help. It could be something very simple and could be fixed and have you back out there fast.

As it's been a month now since you got your injury I think you really need to see a doctor just to be on the safe side.l Good luck and best wishes.

As with the others, try seeing a pro and get help with the injury as soon as you can. :)

For the rest of it:

I have gotten really antsy when injury disrupted my routine - worried I would lose everything I had built up, feeling frustrated and grumpy, finding it hard to stick with my healthy diet. Definitely, regular exercise that you enjoy helps with all of those things, including maintaining good mental health.

Sounds like you need some emergency measures to tide you over until your hip gets better.

If you are able without further injury to your hip, consider alternative exercises. Swimming, especially with a "buoy" which is a piece of foam held between your thighs can keep your legs up - it allows you to swim without kicking, can be a great workout with much less stress on the joints. Or maybe you are able to walk or do other low-impact exercise and strength training. If you choose an activity that doesn't beat up your hip, you can get the stress-management benefit of exercise while you heal.

Plus, the exercise you are able to do without pain will help ensure you still have good energy and cardio ability when you eventually return to running.

Meanwhile, step away from the Twinkies. Get a little sunlight instead to boost your mood. :) If it helps, you can tell yourself that by making healthful eating choices, you are doing what you can to benefit your running once you are better.
