Get checked out by a physio. You may be able to fix it with orthotics.
Also look up some of the leg strengthening exercises for runners knee - these can help. What are you running shoes like? At some point you might like to get your gait analysed so you will be able to get running shoes that suit you best.
I've had knee difficulties for quite a while (before starting running) so did a lot of strengthening exercises at the start - I wore a support bandage for some of the early runs which helped, but to be honest my knees are now better than they have been in years.
Good luck
Also probably don't go out again until you've had it checked, as you only risk making it worse. (I speak from experience - ended up with a diagnosis of osteo-arthritis and tailor made insoles that let me run - but I also had a 4 week layoff waiting for the pain to go away, as I'd aggravated things by keeping going when I should have stopped.)
I had exactly this problem at more or less the same stage. I googled and researched like mad to find the answer so that that I didn't have to stop running because I was making improvements.
But in the end I accepted that I had to stop for a bit and didn't run again until the pain was completely gone - it took about 10 days. And I've never had a problem since.
Anyway my advice is don't try to run through it and hope it will go away. Its disappointing to have to stop but it's worth it.
Pilates classes will help build up the knee, hip and leg muscles (not in a bulky way I hasten to add!!). These muscles will be weak. Pilates will strengthen these muscles and build up your core strength, which will help your running overall (eg better posture)
Hear, Hear! Can't beat Pilates in my opinion. Best wishes.
I can only speak from my own experience as this happened to me too. I had a gait analysis done & got kitted out with some proper running shoes, I also wear a knee support bandage when I'm running & gave myself extra days rest. Do take care, better to sort it now than it get worse in the long run (ha ha excuse the pun!!)
Again I would support taking care but I had knee pain from the end of week 1 to week 4 and graduated 6 months ago, run 3 or 4 times a week and have not had a twinge since. I kind of knew mine wasn't injured as it felt more like bruising up the inside of both knees. I rubbed and rubbed my knees after each run and did strengthening exercises. Also exercises to strengthen the front of my legs (can't remember which muscles they are). My husband who is now on week 5 had knee pain between week 1 and week 4 too. His is now fine. Only wanted to say it's not necessarily a sign of anything wrong, might just your muscles getting used to running. Would recommend the gait analysis and good shoes too though. Fingers crossed.
Hi _ I have knee pain which gets worse during the week when I am sat at my desk all day, it gets better at weekend when I am on my feet more. A lottery win would help ......
