Week 6 and knee pain

So , I have got to week 6, completed (just about) run 1 yesterday. Went out early to avoid the heat of the day. I have got to the point where I actually look forward to getting out there, which is a revelation for me. I’ve tried this so many times before and not got past week 3 .... this time I am doing it with a friend .... she’s 120 miles away but in lockdown style we go out at the same time and the encouragement is massive and makes all the difference. My problem now is my knee pain!! Today I have very tight calves and left knee is hurting real bad! I rested it on Sunday as much as I could and it was bearable yesterday, but I need to make it better. I will try old trainers tomorrow coz I do wonder if new trainers are the cause.

I’m on week4. Just down run 2 and also struggling with knee pain. First couple weeks it was my groin then calf’s and now knees. I just keep trying to stretch lots before and after.

I’m due to do wk7 run 3 but I’m the same. Sore knees. I bought new trainers which helped a bit, but still finding it a bit sore. I’m going to rest for a couple of extra days to see if that helps. Others have told me to do knee strengthening exercises which you can find online. Also a foam roller really helps tight muscles. Make sure you are doing stretches properly after and that you are warming up properly before. This is all the advice I was given so just passing it on. I hope this helps. Xx

The guide to the plan includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

I always alternate new shoes, breaking in my body and my shoes to slightly different support.
