W5 R3 completed but...

Woke up feeling a bit better but still with a cold. Got up, had some cold relief stuff, went out for a run. Managed the five minute warm up and then five minutes into the 20minute run, had to slow to a stop as I couldn't breathe through my nose and it was making me panic. Walked home crying a bit. Had a good old talk to myself in-between the tears that I can do this and that I was being daft. Got home. Had some water and a throat sweet and went back out after another talk to myself.

Anyway, long story short - I managed to run for about 17 minutes of the 20 minute run section (taking into account crossing roads and having to slow to a walk to get my breath back enough to get going again - Mo Farah I'm not!).

I'm now in a bit of a quandary - I'm feeling pleased that I did 18 minutes but not getting that euphoria that others have spoken about for doing the 20 minutes straight. I'm not sure what to do next - whether to move onto W6 or repeat W5 - and focus on getting my running speed up as I'm often walking faster than the running, if that makes sense.

Anyone got any advice?

Hey mummystar, well done on having a go!! You're clearly not feeling 100% so to go out again and get 17 minutes done in a oner. You should be very proud of yourself! And if you add the 5 minutes you did before, that's 22 minutes in total, so hats off to you!!

Just a suggestion, but why don't you repeat this run next time you go out and delay the start of week 6? We're getting to that time of year where I bet most of us will get some sort of bug and it will slow us down, you will not be alone in this.

Smile and be proud of what you've achieved, you've done really well :)

Awww, thanks Nuttynat - you're definitely right, I should re-do today and hopefully by my next run this cold will be gone. I'm amazed I did as much as I did to be honest. :)

happy smiles all round :)

Don't be so hard on yourself. You clearly not well so running for 18 minutes is amazing just think how much more you could have done if you were feeling well! Get better soon x
