Am just starting to get a bit worried that for the last couple of runs it has become far too easy not to go out.
W7R3 was supposed to be Sunday morning, but did it on Monday evening instead.... The W8R1 was supposed to be today and even though I had the full day off work but I just never went out.
I don't know why not and what's worse is that I don't feel particularly guilty about not getting it done. Is this normal to put off doing a run?
Sometimes it does take a bit of motivation to get out there. But you are still running and that's positive, I have found every other day running a bit tough especially the long runs, so no harm in having an extra day off. I think if it becomes a chore you won't enjoy it so won't continue. Well done on getting this far only 6 more runs to graduation. Good luck.
At the start of my Wk7 Run 2 tonight, I felt a bit bored initially but it did improve as the run progressed.
I'm no expert but perhaps you need to think about why you started running in the first place. Consider changing things such as your route, add some hills to give yourself more of a challenge. If the programme is too easy for you, try other things such as sprinting at various parts of the route.
Finally, give yourself a week off. Maybe you need a good rest.
I have been a bit like you and will actually finish the programme 2 weeks later than I intended. However I am running (and walking) a 10k race in August so I know I have to do the kilometres as I want to feel I am as ready as I can be for the 10k. Maybe you could sign up for a race so you have something to aim for. It has really kept me going.
I am finding my motivation has waned in weeks 7/8 too. I'm leaving two days between runs a lot of the time. I almost didn't go the other day at all. I thought it was because I had a 3k a few weeks ago that was the original reason I signed up and now I was feeling the anti-climax. But I do want to achieve 5k, I do enjoy the running once I'm there. I think.
I think the suggestions about changing the scenery or the music etc are good ones. It could just be you're a bit bored?
Thanks all for your comments and suggestions, although I genuinely feel its down to tiredness (possibly from the heat) and that I need to get used to running for longer. When I am out there I know I can do it - it's just getting up and getting out there.
So - My running gear is all laid out at home so I WILL go out tonight & start Wk8.
Do you normally run after work? I sometimes find that if I come home and sit down even for 5 minutes, it's hard to get back up and out again. Instead I come home and get changed and out of the door again straight away and for some reason it's much easier for me that way.
I have no idea why that works for me but it might be worth a try?
Yes I'm really lucky! The views are a definite distraction although it can get very breezy down by the bay. My week 9 coincides with a week away for work in Pittsburgh. I will run on the hotel treadmill but there is NO WAY on earth that I want my graduation run to be in a Marriott mini-gym, so I will be putting off my final run a day or so, so that I can do my usual run past the nature reserve by the beach
and to all of you - a big thank you. Only a few days behind but I got out there an nailed W8R1.
I've also planned out that I can still make my W9R3 fun run on fathers day so long as I stick to my original route & only do one rest day - I think it was the canal tow path, the bridges & dodging nettles which has disrupted my routine.
Tonight I went back to my long straight road and ran it for 28 mins. and it felt so familiar.
I'm still near the beginning of the programme but, after an ear infection which affected my balance, I'd done no exercise for 11 days. My motivation was zilch as well. I started by just going out for walks this week and will start running again next Monday. I will go back to week one though to ease back in gently. It is very hot weather at the moment so I tend to go out early in the morning when it is much cooler. Good luck with the rest of your runs.
The best advice I read on here was to go and put your kit on even if you don't feel like running, if you still don't feel like it, you can take it off again....I never did!
I do the same thing, come back from work ,change and go for a run to avoid getting lazy. Also I tell my partner too so when he asks I will feel ashamed if I didn't go.
But like you and other folks I sometimes leave 2 days or even more in between. I also find it a bit difficult when there are loads of people about and in my way. I am a bit shy so maybe that's why?
