Week 5 run 2 coming up....

Thanks to all your very supportive words I am now not bothered by other pensioners giving me odd looks. I find that the first few minutes of a "run" are the most difficult, takes me time to settle down.

I do carry a small water bottle but am wanting to get some sort of holder as I don't like carrying a bottle in my hand. Seem to be a lot on the market any thoughts, ideas?

I have downloaded a running app on my phone but the gps is very iffy & usually can't get a fix so don't know what my times are. Have looked at watches but they are too expensive for an oap.

This sounds as though it's turning into a moaning session but it's not. I am so pleased with myself for sticking with the programme. I go out tomorrow for my second "run" of week 5 tomorrow if I can run for 8 minutes I will be thrilled.

Amazon have some water bottle belts for runners, may be worth a look. I use RUNKEEPER on my phone but it does have good gps. It is a good app and it is free.

Glad you are enjoying the experience.

Happy running :-)

Hi Lillibell, wishing you luck out there tomorrow - such another stinky day and yet more rain threatened ... Hope you can find a sunny window of opportunity for your run tomorrow.

1. Great, ignore onlookers, they're just pea-green envious of your 'get-up-and-go!

2. I'm just a beginner 'wrinkly', and remain determined to grow older disgracefully ;) You must know Jenny Joseph's ... When I am an old woman I will wear Purple'? I'm with her!

3. I find the first few yards of running the most gruelling too ... Suspect my older bones simply need a little longer to warm up, because I DO find I can settle into a comfortable pace after about 10 minutes. It may sound daft, but during the winter when the weather was even colder, I wore thermal long-johns under my running trousers and although bulky, my legs really did feel great, no cramps, lead-legs, aches or pains at all. Maybe I just need to keep warmer?

4. Have survived whole of C25K without a gps/smart phone, or a runners watch - just a wristwatch and an MP3 player. You might find 'map-my-run' useful on your computer to estimate your routes ... I've used it to plot approximate routes of a few kms long around my local area, you just need to stay aware that there will be a little bit of deviation when you actually run these (we don't run in straight lines). Have saved up for a runners watch ... Hope to get it soon! :) Not spending my pension on satin sandles, or summer gloves, just a Garmin :) it's my treat to me for graduating!

5. Hate the chunky water bottles too - believe there are soft pouches available, which presumably tie around a waist? Will see what I can find.

Anyway, enjoy your 8 minute runs .... not even considering that you won't do them .... Blast them away with you inimitable style and enthusiasm. Go go go Lillibell.

Linda :D
