I've been away from home for 4 weeks and barely ran the whole time. Today when I woke up all I could think of was to get out in the fields and go for it. Mr Y wasn't feeling 100% though so I made breakfast and did a few chores instead....
...but the pull was too strong. Instead of just getting dressed and getting on with my mile long to do list I pulled on my running gear and set off. Conditions really couldn't be better, bright sunshine, 14C and a brisk southerly breeze, my absolute favourite.
Didn't want to overdo it so chose the NRC Comeback Run, just 15 minutes with Coach B, me and nature. Perfect.
The first couple of minutes were hard. A diet of wall to wall spinach pies, ice cream and pizza for the last month has obviously all settled on my rear, and I could feel it wobble as I ran. Oh, it was tough. I was reminded of how running used to feel before I was a runner and could understand why I didn't do it. Time for a bit of a pep talk to myself: 'You know this is temporary and in a couple of minutes you'll feel fine'. I was right, it soon felt better.
Normally on a timed run Coach B will say when we reach the half way point. I reckoned it should have been just before I reached a km of running but he didn't say anything about it. I was having fun by now so I carried on. As I approached 1.5km Coach B pops up and says I have a minute left. OK, I'm certainly not gonna walk all that way home .
So I ran and I ran, reminding myself I needed to keep it slow. Completed the 3k in just under 27 minutes, around my normal time.
Just hoping that I haven't overdone it, my joints and muscles will give their verdict by tomorrow
Oh it's so good to be home!!
