NRC 10k plan: second run of week 2

After my week away today was the day that I finally dragged my fat bottom out of the house and went for a run. It made me realise how important habit and routine are for keeping me on course. Ten days of no running meant that it was a way bigger deal to get out there than it should have been, despite it being a warm and sunny 11C.

The last run I did was the Week 2 Day 5 recovery run of 25 minutes. I toyed with the idea of doing this again but decided to go with the plan and do the Day 1 14 Minute Run with Coach Bennett. The shorter duration was pretty appealing and when I got outside and felt the strength of the breeze, head on as always, it seemed like an even better idea.

We didn't fancy running through the fields so followed the quayside through town. There are houseboats there, and one of them has a pair of huskies that love lying around on the front in all weathers. The boat is a big motorboat which gleams white in the summer. Like a lot of us, it's looking a bit sad with green algae and winter grime. Didn't seem to bother the doggies though.

When we reached the marina the path wasn't as puddle-y as it has been but I decided I'd had enough and turned back. I was at around 10-11 minutes into the run and didn't fancy getting my feet wet. My husband carried on a bit further, covering his favourite 3.14km distance. Coach B announced the end of the run but I carried on for nearly another 6 minutes, finishing where the run had started. It's a very easy run, not as frenetic as the 555 second one where he's constantly asking questions. OK so 14 minutes is only just through the Toxic 10 but 20 minutes was nice, 2.38 km covered then home for breakfast.

It's good to be back :)

They are lovely, they just lie there like big teddy bears. From what I've read about this breed they are very hard work but these ones are obviously so well cared for.

A run is a run... some of my best are 15 minute ones with my chum CB...You got out and got back into it..

Nice to be home... and good company en route... well done to you!

I love those dogs! My sister has a husky (previously two huskies) and they’re bonkers but lovely. Super fluffy and when they moult, it’s a tough job to avoid looking like a yeti when you’re around them!

I did this run a few days ago and like it more than the 555 second version. I did the same as you and topped up to 20 minutes. I like the flexibility of these plans. Enjoy the next one!

These are the sort of dogs I like to look at but no way would I ever be tempted :)

The NRC plans are great the way they aren't so prescriptive, aren't they?

Definitely! That was one of the things l liked least about couch to 5k-I think I need a bit of space to (sensibly) adapt to what works best for me.
