Just over a couple of weeks ago (remember the heatwave?) we spontaneously jumped on our boat and set sail for...the south coast. I packed my running gear but while we got to some lovely places everywhere was either beach, road or concrete paths. I like to run on grass out of respect for my poor old arthritic knees.
Anyway, the wind changed direction and the weather went back to normal British summertime stuff so we turned around and came home. I was determined I'd run this morning, finally.
This morning dawned grey and cool. Fantastic! I got into my running gear, drank my coffee and I was off, listening to Coach Bennett's Best Advice Ever Run on NRC. I really wanted to do 5k but decided an easy 25 minute run would be better after a break. Off I set, my legs just ran away with me, I had to keep telling myself to slow down. Managed a shade under 3k in the 25 minutes, pretty good for me.
I had a couple of km to walk home so was enjoying the countryside when I saw an acquaintance out walking her dogs. Last time I met her I was doing my warm up walk and she asked me, a bit accusingly, why I wasn't running. Didn't want the same conversation again so decided to do some impromptu intervals. Run until she couldn't see me, walk, repeat.
Felt fantastic when I got home. I have missed this so much!
