NRC 10k Plan: Week 5 Run 2 More Joy

Yesterday was the day the builders came along to start gutting our very tired old bathroom. I hadn't realised how much noise and dust this would involve. We'd planned to collect our son from uni in Brighton today, but as we ate lunch we decided to escape and go there a day early. We jumped in the car, booked a hotel and set off. Brilliant idea!

This morning we couldn't miss the opportunity to run along the seafront. Oops, I'd left my running shoes in London after going for a run with my niece. Luckily I was wearing my other running shoes for walking so no need to panic.

Today's run was 'Running for more joy' with Coach B, a 35 minute recovery run. It matched my mood completely. There was a lot to feel joyful about. Decent weather, maybe a bit overcast but not cold, not too much wind and from the east, so it was at my back on the return leg. Perfect.

Mr Y wanted to run 3k so we parted ways when he was half way through. I carried on. Feeling joyful wasn't difficult. The cliffs, the buildings, the sea, just being there and knowing son was coming home for Easter :)

When I'd completed the run, a shade over 4km in 35 minutes, I did a couple of stretches holding onto a railing by the pier. What a view!

When I got back to the hotel Mr Y had finished his shower so I didn't have to wait for the bathroom, another cause for joy. Then we headed into the Lanes and I had an absolutely amazing Full English Breakfast Croque Monsieur. It was so good. What a fantastic start to the day!

Oh, and our son drove us home so I didn't even have to do that :)

What a brilliant post! I was well happy reading this. Such a brilliant and spontaneous idea to go. Really well done for getting out there and sprinkling extra magic on a really lovely time together. It's brilliant how running just sprinkles extra seasoning on our day 🙏😊

brilliant! A joy to read! 👏😄😀🏃🏼‍♀️

(My son is contemplating between different unis, Brighton being one. So very tempting to do something similar!)

Thanks, Brighton seems to be a great place for students but the rents are sky high!! On the other hand, having a son at uni there is a great excuse for endless visits to the seaside :)

It's lovely to have him here, I think he's looking forward to the new bathroom as much as we are. He was always complaining that we didn't have a bath when he was younger (just a shower room).
