Second run of the NRC Get Started plan today. I admit, I didn't feel like it. The view from the bedroom window was misty and gloomy and when we stepped outside there was a light drizzle. Should I put a jacket on? Should I go back inside? Nope, I should stop whinging and get on with the run.
Coach B said this is a recovery run so an easy effort but I felt like pushing it a bit - maybe a 6/10 effort not a 4/10. The damp weather is great, it's so much easier to warm up than to cool off.
Time sped past. It's supposed to be a 25 minute run but that seems to allow the Coach to talk for 5 minutes at the end. I'd only been going for 20 minutes when he counted me down to the finish. I pressed continue. I was about a km from home and, while the drizzle stopped almost as soon as it began, I didn't want to be hanging around in the murk any longer than necessary.
As I was congratulating myself for being so dedicated to running despite the weather Mr Y pointed out that people were swimming in the river. Now that's dedication, they were going against the tide and the river isn't what you'd call clean and inviting at the best of times.
A few minutes after the run commentary had finished Coach B congratulated me for carrying on. I even managed to hit the magical (for me) 3.14 km, my π run . I stopped the app and who should be in my ear but Mo Farrah, telling me I wasn't just getting fitter but getting faster too!
I'm impressing all the boys today

As well as impressing all the boys, you’ve impressed this girl too!! I’m another fan of a slightly speedy recovery run…some of my best runs have been me pushing like anything while Coach B is banging on about an easy effort. Sometimes you just have to run what your legs want to run!
I find it hard to stick to an easy pace when the weather is grim. Even when it’s a timed run not distance, I think I go faster to try and get it over with quicker. I know there’s no logic in that!!
You definitely earned your dedication badge. Hope you’ve given yourself a nice reward…even if that’s basking in the smugness of a great run!
Well I didn't set out with the intention of impressing the boys!! 😂😂😂
I know what you mean about different, Coach B is much more informative and measured, where on some runs, like, say, Funky Fartlek or the Spooky run he's just blathering on like you're chatting to him. Maybe he feels like he hasn't been properly introduced yet
