rainy run

well I finally felt as though my nasty cold had gone, no dizzy spells this morning, nowhere to be early so I had no excuses left…… it WAS raining and I nearly talked myself out of it again but I have a sports massage booked for later so I thought let’s make the most of it and out I went.

Walked the warm up and felt pretty good and then it was time to run and I sped up and within seconds my left ankle was twingeing….. you know when it sorts of feels like it needs to click back into place? I shook it a couple of times and tried to flex it fully and it kept making me wince. I stopped and did a couple of squats and after an almighty crack it sorted itself out and off I went again. I had put week 1 of bridge to 10k podcast on just to see how I felt and I was quite glad to walk for one minute after the first 10 minutes of running.

It was one of those runs where you have to watch the ground as everywhere is covered in fallen leaves which the rain has made very hazardous and slippery. And the steady drizzle was ok mainly but made the backs of my hands ache with the cold. Strange as I ran in a thin short sleeve teeshirt and capris and was warm on my body and arms

I hadn’t really planned my route as it was just “ get out there before you talk yourself out of it !!!” So I ended up turning and running along the pavement parallel to the main road and then ending up at the cut through behind the school. I’d had no real idea of how long I was going for or how far , as I had no idea how my lungs would hold up, after being a struggle to breathe and walk anywhere for a week.

I ended up running for a further 20 minutes in the gentle drizzle and as I stopped my watch the rain stopped and the sun came out 🙄. Typical!!😂 So I was pleasantly surprised to have run for 30 minutes total and I am glad I went and now, after my lovely hot shower, I am about to go for my sports massage and I know once again it was the right decision to go out and run.

Lookjnv forward to next one again now 😁

You always know you will feel better about getting out there so well done on motivating yourself to have a run in the rain. Yuk, your description of your ankle cracking 🙈😱😂

I love that feeling of getting a morning run done and having the rest of the day feeling good about yourself 😉

I am hypermobile in a lot of joints so it happens quite often- when I stretch in bed certain joints pop out and I have to try to pop them back. Usually the ankle, sometimes a wrist and even my neck!!! I think my chiropractic lady calls it sublocation

Nicely run, thank you too I never knew a few squats could sort out an ankle that might need a click, bet the massage was lovely

I try all sorts to reclick myself into place - it’s a common occurrence. My sisters and daughter are like it too. We have a competition going as to who can do the most stupid sublocation. One sister was kneeling polishing the fire front and turned her head to sneeze… she was in a plaster jacket for 6 months ( years ago this was), my younger sister put her neck out slicing a large block of cheese, my daughter gave herself whiplash flicking her fringe out of her eyes and I twisted my pelvis out of whack by squeezing a tube of body wash too hard!! 😂😂

As someone said once “ I’m just one good f*rt away from falling to bits”

That sounds very difficult to put up with but you seem to manage it well

Ah well done! Glad the ankle sorted itself out too. You’re right about the leaves etc, we need to keep our eyes peeled at the moment don’t we. Hope the massage was good! 😊
