A rainy run

I knew it was going to rain this morning and knew Willow probably wouldn’t join me so decided long and slow was what I wanted to do.

Off I set, A rainy run and coach Bennett for company with a playlist in the background.

Decisions decisions, left or right? Decided to head for the seafront and go in the opposite direction to usual, not many people out although this run is a lot of main road and loads of cars,

I plodded on and after 45 minutes CB said count down end of run, oh well, I’m a way from home so plod on, 5k reached as I get to the top of the railway bridge, the second I’ve run over this morning.

Points of interest, I was overtaken by 2 separate people walking, both very young with long legs, the rain stopped after a few minutes of running so I stayed dry, and suddenly I remembered something I was supposed to do at work yesterday and forgot.... I said out loud “Oh F ...” just as a tall man ran past me, I think he thought he’d made me jump and he turned with a big grin and apologetic wave so i called out I’d remembered something I forgot to do, he grinned again and ran on, must have thought I was mad,

After 5k I walked a bit, then jogged slowly home

That was lovely and every so often I thought of Dexy5 and UpTheStanley and Cheekychipmunks and every one else running at Kempton Park in the name of research to find out if it’s safe to open up real as opposed to virtual races again, such a huge thing to be part of

Have a great weekend

Haha I bet that man was surprised at your expletive as he passed 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you, I was going so slow because I didn’t want to slip on wet pavements

I don’t blame you. We were walking the dogs at Shoreham in it.

SueAppleRun profile image

Going along the seafront I was so tempted to keep going to Shoreham but there’s no where to turn off until you get to the airport road so turned in and headed home

A nice rainy run with an expletive or 2 thrown in is always good! I’m always forgetting something and doing the exact same thing. Well done 😊🏃‍♀️👏🏼👍🏃‍♂️.

It’s something that’s really important but i can sort it out tomorrow

Well done for getting out in the rain, you're better than me 👍 So annoying when you remember something you should have done when you can do nothing about it don't blame you for the swearing 🤬

SueAppleRun profile image

There was no one to be seen so i was most surprised to be overtaken by a runner at the exact time I swore

Well done for getting out in the rain Sola! An interesting run for you - when walkers pass me I nearly always pass the time of day with them. Well it seems rude not to when they’ve made the effort to speed past🤣! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toOldgirlruns

They were very young walkers and in their own world of hey probably didn’t even notice meGlad you had a good day yesterday

Well done Sola. I do enjoy running in the rain! Refreshing! I did grin when that guy thought you were talking to him 😂

You watch now...you’ll keep seeing that runner now! 🤣🤬

Sounded like a lovely gentle run...even better that it stopped raining!

I’m hoping to dodge the rain tomorrow 🤞🏼

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toLottieMW

He was probably laughing at my speed or lack of, but it was near the end of my run, Hope you dodge the rain, I’m at work tomorrow covering an extra shift

LottieMW profile image

I decided when I joined the bank as a vaccinator that I would keep my Sundays and evenings free for me! Too many years of unsocial hours and on calls means that I really enjoy uninterrupted evenings!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toLottieMW

I prefer not to work the extra sunday late but it’s only once a month and we have a new member of staff starting soon who will be covering that shift when they’ve settled in

A good run for you in the rain, Sola. I did smile at that runner appearing out of nowhere just at the wrong time! 😊. He must have been zipping along at a fair pace. Shame Willow missed the run, but running in the rain isn’t for everyone. It’s funny, because although I don’t soften start to run in the rain, I don’t mind if it rains during my run and some of my best runs have been in the rain!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toJools2020

The rain was an excuse, honestly I had 3 drops of rain on my glasses at the beginning and that was it! but the main thing was for me to get in a longer run and will try this once a week and see how it goes, then we will run the shorter runs together Willow really doesn’t want to run round the roads and there’s only so many times i can run the half kilometre circuit of our park without getting bored out of my brains, the industrial estate circuit is about 2k round but that only works weekends when it’s quiet. Considering when we started he left me behind on every run I’m amazed it’s me that wants to run further and further her

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

😂 Well it’s not surprising he was loping along like a gazelle!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toJools2020

I know! and of course I exaggerate but he was definitely over 6ft, I know what looks like 6ft as all my grandchildren are around that mark now, and this guy was definitely taller running past me

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

I’m guessing I’m a bit taller than you at 5’8”. Two of my grandsons are already taller than me, but expect all 6 of my grandchildren will end up taller than I am as my sons are both tall! 😊

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toJools2020

I’m 5’3” so even your legs would come up to my waist oh to be tall, my parents were tall and my sister is tall, my children are taller than me but not 6’ but the grands are really tall, even the girl is almost on 6’

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Haha, I haven’t got particularly long legs for my height, but I have enjoyed being tall. It’s hereditary, I guess. My sisters are slightly shorter than me, my brother is 6’2” and my sons are both over 6 ft tall.

My father has that problem (long body, short legs). Duck's Disease, we call it (the curse of the Seagoons). 🦆🤣

Lovely run there Sola. How far did you do in the end? Was it 8k?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toFionamags

7.67k in the end but probably 8k with the warm up walk, trouble is I’m so slow I was out almost an hour and a half but O do love a long slow plod

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toFionamags

Being short, being mid sixties and never having been a sprinter means I don’t have high expectations of speed so am just happy we can both run, I’ve started lunges this morning and had to laugh at myself in the mirror i did wobble

sofaspud profile image
sofaspud

Well done, Sola! Just curious about what you wear to run in the rain? Do you try to stay dry or just accept that you’ll be wet?!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply tosofaspud

It really was only drizzle so i wore a tiny tee shirt with a cotton hoodie over it which i tied round my waist at around 3k, leggings most the time and shorts when the sun is shining, a cap is a good thing that keeps raindrops off my glasses and out my eyes

Ha ha , your spell checker preferred you local Kemptown to Kempton Park Sola.

Well done on your nice long run today. I used to travel from Bath to Hove at weekends and love the sight of Lancing College from the main road. It also meant not far to go.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toDexy5

Oh dear I didn’t spot that, Bath brings back memories of the amazing spa, Coming back from anywhere it’s the tunnel and seeing the sea which makes me know I’m nearly home, but Lancing college is beautiful, I used to swim there on Sunday evenings before my job meant I worked Sunday evenings instead, it was where I learned to dive (badly) and swim under water

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

I was pre-tunnel, through all the coastal towns.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toDexy5

Yes, I meant to put coming the other way, we often go along the river and look up at the college it’s an impressive building especially in the dark all lit up

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

No I meant the tunnel hadn’t been built then. 1989/90

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toDexy5

Oh lol of course, I used to go each week to Pevensey to visit my mum and the first time i went through the tunnel was the day she moved to be near us, it was a bit of a trek without the tunnel
