Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Went over to Huddersfield Greenhead Park parkrun, the weather was dry but fairly cold and Huddersfield is one of the biggest if not the biggest in West Yorkshire its a fairly flat course and fast course. I'm still slowly building my fitness back up so not quick times for me at the moment (31.37).Well done anyone who volunteerd or ran walked a parkrun today
WAS going to go to Springburn parkrun this morning, I had all my running stuff ready, however, there was light rain during the night which then froze due to freezing temperatures for a short time making surfaces very slippy, so I missed parkrun, a bit flustered as the ice lifted at nine o'clock but that was too late for me to go, the weather forecast for next weekend is mild, temperature 10C so hopefully I'll get to parkrun then
Sorry to hear that Al but I think you made the right decision - you really don’t want to risk injury by slipping on the ice. Parkrun will be there next week and Spring is on the way!
Today was Parkrun #100 for me ( healthunlocked.com/couchto5... ). I won't bore you with the details, anyone who wants can click the link to read my thoughts; but it was a return to the scene of both my very first parkrun, and my parkrun PB. The latter was in no danger today, but truthfully, I'm just grateful to be able to get out there...
Today was the day that Oldgirlruns reached run/walk number 100 and this was definitely something to be celebrated amongst friends.
cheekychipmunks got up at some ridiculous time and drove from Bristol, Mudita11 from Southampton and JonathanP came down from North Portsmouth to join the Southsea Motley Crew. Once again the celebration was marked by dressing as black cats to show that the black milestone T-shirt would be gained. Coddfish was unable to take part today but she sat on a bench along the route to cheer everyone on and then drove to the finish to clap Oldgirl in. UpTheStanley ran with Mr C most of the way, I ran and talked with Cheeky, which was just the right speed while recovering from a cold , and Oldgirl walked with Mudita as they are both on the IC. Lots of cheering for cats along the route and a great time was had by all.
It was cold, it was windy but it was fun.
Of course, the day would not be complete without a good breakfast in a local restaurant.
Today I continued on my London journey and did Greenwich parkrun. It's a bit confusing as it's not in Greenwich Park, but instead in a different park in the London Borough of Greenwich, where it gets its name from. I wonder what would happen if a parkrun started in Greenwich Park 😂
On my way, I noticed a sign saying Frank's Hill, so I was a bit worried, but I realised it was more of a gentle incline, so it was fine.
Sorry, long post alert! I got there at last Damienair! 100th parkrun done today on a grey 6 degrees morning with a rather cutting cold southeasterly wind keeping Southsea chilly! But it was a good one! Cheekychipmunks got up ridiculously early to join in, Mudita11 came along the M27 and Jonathan P joined us from the other end of Portsea island and I can’t tell you how good it feels when people are prepared to make a journey to help you mark an occasion. Dexy5, being prime mover in the shenanigans, had of course primed the RD to give me a shout out which was just as well as it hadn’t occurred to me to do it! She also bought me a balloon which, again, is pretty flamboyant for me but I was happy to join in with wearing cats ears (and tails for some!), which is now a tradition amongst a certain group of HUers when celebrating a milestone! Mudita is recovering from injury so we walked the course and had a lovely chat as we went; sadly, we hadn’t gone too far when the wind snatched the balloon and away it went! Note to self, next time tie it on better! But we also managed a few short running spells and ran across the finish line in 55 minutes, with UpTheStanley having come back along the course to meet us. Coddfish hadn’t been able to walk it this morning but Mr C ran and they both joined in with a yummy celebration breakfast afterwards. When I started parkrun, 100 seemed so far off and when I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s a couple years ago, it seemed an impossible dream but I got there in the end - and I count the support of my runny friends as a large part of making it happen!
I look forward to that. Also looking forward to finding out what the saw bones consultant makes of my left hip on the 26th. If it is indeed a problem that can be improved by another nice piece of Smith&Nephew technology, I would be hopeful of being able to do more than walk once it’s all sorted. Running on the right artificial hip was going splendidly until cancer treatment rather got in the way…… If it’s not primarily an osteoarthritis issue, I am not sure where this is heading, other than 5k might ultimately require a powered solution. .
Huge congratulations to you Oldgirlruns , I am delighted for you and it is a fantastic achievement which needs to be celebrated in style. Very well done. And very well done too to you amazing friends for making you day so special. Fantastic.
Afternoon all, hope you’ve all had great days, whether you ran, walked, stayed in bed, whatever. I did! As Dexy5 mentioned already I was up nice and early, all ready to leave home at 5:20am. I never find early mornings a problem, can you tell? 😅 That gave me time to stop for coffee en route, and with little danger of squeaking up almost late like last time, due to adverse unexpected traffic.
It was a great turnout for Oldgirlruns and lovely to see her, along with Dexy, UpTheStanley , Mudita11 , JonathanP , Coddfish and Mr Coddfish. A bad hair day (again), but Dexy and I pootled along at conversational pace, receiving compliments about our cats’ ears. She was also sporting a tail, me some paws! Oldgirlruns’ balloon had enough and took flight, but no worries, we had a good old chinwag and chuckle over a delightful breakfast.
Home now, and it’s raining here. Glad that didn’t join the party this morning as well as the wind! 🙏
I love coming to see you guys and I couldn’t less this momentous occasion slip by could I? 😅 Haha, yes, my car has travelled a good number of miles in pursuit of my PR tourism! 😂
Oh so sorry you missed out JonathanP ! You do sound disappointed 🤥 But never fear, I’ll keep them handy and make a note that next time we have a black cat occasion, it’s your turn to wear them!! 🐈⬛ 😈
Really well done Cheeky. It was so lovely seeing you all again in Southampton last year that I could just picture perfectly the celebrations and atmosphere of the 100th milestone event. Well done to you and everyone involved in organising this fantastic celebration. 🎉
Good afternoon Damien and all! Back to a decent run at Stratford today. I delayed my run from yesterday so that I could do a ‘parkrun sandwich’ today. I had an hour to run, 20 easy, 20 tempo, 20 easy, so it made sense, especially as I’ve not been feeling 100%.
I ran the first 20 minutes to get to parkrun, and then did course check and pre-setup. Then tried to avoid getting even more soaked in the rain before setting off for the parkrun. Legs had felt really heavy during the first 20 minutes but I’d put on my speedy shoes and they really enjoyed kicking off. Consequently I ate into the last 20 minutes and didn’t slow down much 🤭. I finished with 12 minutes to spare, so I had to do another lap (it’s a 3 lapper) to finish my session off. Those 12 minutes were harder than the previous 29 😬 as my legs felt like lead again. Still, I got my fastest time at Stratford this year so that helped perk me up.
Coffee and bacon sandwich with Katnap and Shake-and-run after, helped warm us up. Still trying to get my head around how I’m supposed to do 2 hours tomorrow whilst feeling fairly rubbish though. Maybe focussing on the celebratory pint of Guinness at the end will help?
I’ve been wondering the same this weekend Dexy! Thankfully the ‘feeling rubbish’ disappeared yesterday evening so I could just get on with doing what was needed. I just love the focus and the challenges involved I suppose.
I don’t know where you get the energy TC! I hope tomorrow goes OK, I’m sure thoughts of Guinness or bacon sandwiches, or both, will help you along the way!
You’re something else TailChaser . All the miles you log are reaping dividends though. Amazingly tough and speedy, that’s you! 💪 💥 Enjoy tomorrow, and may the hoodie and Guinness spur you on. 👊
It was 1.5c, misty and drizzly at Market Rasen this morning and I woke up with a cold (thanks Mr S 🤧) but, as I said I’d support Shake-and-run from afar (about 100 miles!) in her 100km in February challenge, it had to be done. Despite all that, my fastest finish this year so far (still not particularly fast at 34.49) but Garmin obviously likes my new 5k x 5 days a week routine, because I have been “Productive” since 3 Feb and gained 2 VO2 max points in the last week. Total now 57.5k/100 😁Small things 😂
It would be good to get back towards where I was previously, but I’m not going to kill myself to do it! At least I am fairly confident of beating last year’s Monsal time
Oh are they? That would be amazing as we have the London Winter Run, and the thought of running through the streets in the bitter cold wasn’t really appealing. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Very busy parkrun at Valentines!!! Over 700 people. I volunteered as a barcode scanner after my run. We ran out of tokens at 600 but the staff handled it really, really well. Tomorrow volunteering for course check at the junior.
Great to make one of my occasional visits to Southsea this morning - particularly because it was OGR's 100th parkrun! As others have said, there was a chilly breeze off the sea which particularly affected the 2nd & 4th legs of the ‘paper clip’ course. Runners are lined up in order of likely finish time, which means the start is a bit slow, and it wasn't until the 3rd (westbound) leg that I decided to open the throttle a little - without going mad.
As a result I had 31.13 Garmin, 31.44 official - fastest parkrun this year and no after-effects. After clapping OGR over the finish line, we adjourned to the usual watering hole for a very pleasant breakfast - 2nd in my case!
Really good to see you JonathanP ! Super speedy too, well done! Ahh, you didn’t have the cat ears for resistance did you? Knew there was a reason! 🤣🤣 Next time it’s your turn! 😈
Good evening Damien. No parkrun for me this week – it was cancelled.
This morning was a very high spring tide at Pwllheli. There was no beach to run on.
It'll probably be the same the next Saturday following the full moon (15 March) as a lunar eclipse is expected at the full moon (7am on the 14th, so it will have set for UK&Ireland before totality) so the sun and moon will be more perfectly aligned, leading to more extreme tidal ranges.
Anyway, I did a bit of garden clearance following Storms Darragh and Éowyn: moving the panels of the broken shed away from the propane tank ahead of an expected delivery, cutting fallen tree limbs, razing a pair self-seeded buddleias, cutting back some intrusive sycamore branches, etc.
By the end of that I wasn't up to doing my planned 6km circular route. It was already damp, but starting to drizzle and the daylight was fading. In the event I did a 2 mile (3.22km) out-and-back wearing my head torch so I'd be more visible in the gathering crepuscular gloom.
Well done on your 2 mile run. Like you I spent yesterday in the garden. Cutting back bushes and pruning back some over hanging branches. My garden looks like a bomb went off in it. All the branches need to be cut up into bite sized chunks so as they can fit into the wood burning stove.
I did my 63rd parkrun at my local event yesterday. Decided to have a go at repeating run one of week one couch to 5k as my ankle is much better. Must have looked like I was chatting to myself but I was replying to Steve Cram's encouragement on my headphones! I managed the whole thing, then carried on slow jogs and brisk walks till the finish.
at my usual venue, Ferry Meadows, yesterday. Having set a PB on New Year’s Day my times had slowed a lot through January.
I do a cardiac gym circuit class on a Friday and really pushed this week, saw a heart rate that made me think, just within my calculated maximum. However Saturday dawned cold and damp, we’d volunteered so off we went. Dry for the run and no wind and, lo and behold, despite seeing that heart rate again, I was back into my PB minute, just.
Most weekends I snd my Cockerpoo Harvey run our local eventCurrently I am using NRC Half Marathon plan
I have entered a local 10 k run The week before I can either enter a 10k or Half Marathon have yet to decide which.at the moment I am edging towards running the 10k.
I will probably run with the girls that are in my pace group at my Running Club always good fun to run with and encourage each other
I had a bit of a crazy day yesterday. Only just posting now myself. I got up early and went to my local parkrun. When I got to the car park I was both delighted and surprised to see my friend Ida there as she had only had a hip replacement surgery on Tuesday. Amazing how minimally invasive surgery can make such a difference. She was volunteering as marshal at point not too far away and was supported by her daughter. After saying hello I ran off to the start line. I fitted in a training plan into the parkrun, it involved running at easy pace and tempo pace. I enjoyed the run and finished in an official time of 27:52. Afterwards I had to do a little cool down run and then myself, Ida and her daughter went for coffee and a lovely cinnamon bun. When I got home I spent the day in the garden and went out for dinner with my wife, Mum and Dad as they were staying over. Just about to head off for a 6K run now either my Cocker Spaniel.
I know. She is even more parkrun crazy than I am. She wears all the merchandise. Nothing was keeping her away. She had a good spot where she could stand beside a sign and keep herself supported.
