The running Gods are against me!

After feeling rubbish with various viruses, sinus problems etc for over 6 weeks and not running for most of them I had started to feel hopeful that I was able to start running again. I’ve gently built up from 3k to 7k slowly but surely and making sure I do dynamic stretches before and my post run deep yoga stretches afterwards but I’ve had a twinge and tight feeling in my calf the last two runs. I set off for a solo run on Wednesday, after work, and as soon as I started running I felt a strain in my calf again - I stopped and tried walking - all fine - tried to gently run again but it was sore so I gave up and went home. I’ve been using the massage roller on it and I did an 8k walk this morning - weirdly the pain has moved from my calf to my hamstring now (I tried jogging across the road) so I’m feeling really frustrated and thought the running Gods would be a bit kinder but no 😡 .

I’ll continue with the stretches, massage roller and walking until the pain has completely gone but it looks like my second event (trail 10k) might not happen for me next weekend (first one cancelled due to snow)! 😢

Oh I absolutely feel your frustration! And it seems you are doing the right things to get on top of this .

For me, James dunne of 'Kinetic revolution' is always my go to for any niggles or injury recovery .

Infact I'm just about to go back to various routines from his 30 day challenge.

He has several videos on calf exercises,

Perhaps take a look at these .

This is really effective - I haven’t quite pulled a muscle it’s more of a strain feeling so I’m able to do them - thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh... I feel your pain!!! How many of us are feeling exactly as you are...just getting back , feeling the joy and POW!!!

Poor you! It is really hard to raise yourself up again after the kind of stuff that you have been handling! These links to exercise look great!

Please do let is know how you fare? Stay strong... you will get there. !

I’m keeping positive by doing my yoga, weights, walks and stretches until it feels better. I might also try a sports massage too. Thanks OF I’ll get there soon enough 🤞🏻

Argh, it's so frustrating! Sending positive thoughts your way, sometimes it does feel like somebody up there is having a laugh at our expense. Keeping my fingers crossed that you'll come back stronger with those exercises 🤞
