A rainy 5k

It’s the Easter holidays and I’m in a break between study modules. I’m making the most of it with a bit of a chilled time. The builders were back so I thought it was a perfect tone to rack up 9k steps around a designer outlet. Sadly Sweaty Betty let me down with the wrong combination of styles and sizes. We won’t even talk about how effective a “medium support” bra is when you try jumping up and down. No run related kit but I can home with a shiny new toaster and a very pretty handbag.

There’s a local 10k event in June MrU and I hope to do together. That means he’s more up for running than usual. Even so, the weather was grim and it took a bit of persuading that going out would be fun. We agreed that he’d do just ten minutes and I’d carry on. I thought he might get into it and I was right!

We walked for five minutes having a good old whinge about the rain. Once we started running, moaning continued but we’re Brits so it was quite fun. We did notice lots of birds were still singing. The horses seemed to be having a nice time chasing each other in the field. We could hear lambs in the barn. It was actually quite nice! MrU decided after five minutes he was enjoying himself to keep going for ten. I felt quite smug that I’d predicted this would happen but didn’t share my thoughts! Running as a pair makes dodging puddles a bit trickier. I gave up and started running through them.

After a mile, MrU was ready to turn for home. I debated being antisocial and just running off on my own but I accompanied him back to the start. Then it was time for some solo fun. I topped up to 5k with the D and B60 which made it hard to keep to a chillled pace. It was nice to have a mix of company and headspace. Plus, when I got back, tea was already on the go. Result!

This was a much nicer run than anticipated. My new motto? Brave rain and you might just enjoy it! Either way you’ll still have the miles in your legs.

Happy April Showery runs all!

Thank you! It’s most definitely a tea and toast day. It’s not currently raining but it is freezing! Toast is the king of all foods and soup on a cold day is perfect. I’ve really missed having a working toaster!!

Stepping out in to rain is always the hardest bit MissUnderstanding - once you’re out in it, it can be quite refreshing! Well done to both of you…all good miles in the legs!🏃‍♀️🏃🏽🙂

Thank you! You’re so right. Once you’re out and wet, and you can’t get any more wet, it’s fun. Stepping out of the door is hard!

That sounded like fun! Good hunting on the shopping front too. Have you tried M&S for running bras? My new favourite is from there. Solid as a rock and very comfortable as well!

Thankyou and thanks for the tip! I haven’t tried M and S sports bras. I really like their good move sports wear. I’ll have a look! My favourites are Maaree and Runderwear but they’re expensive so I usually wait for sales. Mostly I’ve got Shock Absorbers but not the run bra because I can’t do the clasp!

I love a rainy run….only if I’m already out running!😂 If it’s raining before I head out then I head to the kettle instead. I love M and S sports bra and they’re not as expensive as sweaty Betty’s or other named brands. They are my go to.

So pleased you enjoyed your run Miss Understanding. I think it was rainy everywhere yesterday. When I was out it became a bit drizzly as I tried out my new running watch xx

Another recommendation for M and S! It looks like I need another shopping trip. That’s never too much of a hardship!

Testing new kit is so much fun. Definitely good motivation for going out in the rain. Exchanging water from the sky for water in the kettle is a valid choice!!!

How lovely that you'll run that 10k together soon...that's awesome!! I personally love the rain but also think that going out whatever the weather will make him more bulletproof on the day itself.

Thank you! I did it two years ago. MrU did it last year while I was injured. It will be nice to try it together!

I’m hoping that enough rainy runs will help the getting out and going in the wet. I did couch to 5k on Jan/Feb so all my early runs were in the rain and dry was a novelty!
