PB 10K! but...

I set out yesterday having missed my weekend longer run, just for stuff that got in the way over the weekend (mostly related to my daughter's upcoming A levels...). Anyway... I therefore was a bit half hearted about distance - needing to run, but needing to be back to cook dinner etc. Nevertheless, I set off, looking at maybe a 10k, or maybe stopping after about an hour.. figured I'd make it up as I went. Anyway... the long and short is that I completed the 10K, taking a minute off my best time (tbf.... I've only run 10k about 4 times, so there should be improvement), but I was thrilled! I'm no gazelle, but aged 55, a 10K at just under 1 hour 13 minutes I think is pretty good!

The but... sometimes when running I get a bit of a dull ache in one hip. I usually carry my phone in the pocket of my leggings, and it's on that side. I've moved my phone over to the other side, but any advice or tips? I've always been tight in the hips - I know I should harder to improve flexiblity here, so is it just a case of finally having to focus on what I should have been doing years ago?

Well done on the PB! Especially when it wasn’t planned 🙂

I doubt that the phone would be the problem but it’s worth an experiment. Do you stretch after a run? If not then try these:

The Piriformis stretch is particularly good for tight hips. Ease into it gently. I find doing it on a low bench more effective but you can try it on the floor first.

Thank you. I'm an intermittent stretcher, which I know is bad...!! Must try harder.. 😆

If I carry anything on one side in a pocket, I find it does cause me discomfort in that hip after a while. I've taken to carrying my phone in a waistband pocket instead.
