First 10k for 4 months!

I've had it in mind that I wanted to get back to 10k. I've done a few 8k runs, but 10k seemed to be eluding me. Anyway, today our car was due in the garage for some work. I checked with hubby and he hadn't requested a courtesy car. I checked the OS mapping app and discovered a reasonable run route home from the garage at 9.7k. And before I knew the words came tumbling out 'I'll take the car in and run home'. Well that was quickly taken up ( hubby recovering from injury and is only back to 5k just now). Now having volunteered I was a bit apprehensive, but I had a good breakfast, picked up my drinks bottle, double checked the polo mint stash and drove to the garage. Dropped it off, chatted to the guys about the problems and left. What a glorious morning so sunny and warm. I tentatively set off, making note to set off steadily and settled into a steady pace. The first 2-3k was alongside heavy traffic breathing in their fumes, but then I left it all behind. 4k in, text from hubby, he's following me on livetrack, 'are you going too fast, hill ahead..' Bless him, stop the timer, quick reply, all well. And so it continues, back to the countryside now and the quiet back lanes, breathe in the fresh air happy to be on the home straight. It looks like OS maps are right about the distance, so I add a little spur to ensure I hit 10k, absolutely perfect and the time...I was very pleased that it was close to my PB. Now I feel elated, I can still do it, just needed breakfast and the necessary motivation. And the pic, gorgeous flowers in my garden.

Nope, hubby drew the short straw with his bus pass! Not a straightforward journey but doable.

We're in town and our garage is a 5 minute walk away, but I did a similar thing a couple of time earlier in the year - dropped car off and did a 5k around town and parks, ending at home and then a short walk later in the day to pick car up again.

What an uplifting run report Sax64. Ticks all the boxes; spontaneous, 10k rediscovered and a good pace. Hope the garage bill isn’t too big ….we prefer happy endings 🙂👍

Thanks for your encouraging words. And no garage bill, car is still under warranty, so even better.
