10K and a new PB! πŸ‘ŠπŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€©

It was dull and overcast before dawn here in the fens! I wasn’t sure if I was going to be cold or not, so I decided to wear shorts (my legs don’t seem to get cold) long sleeved top & lightweight jacket. I can always take the jacket off and tie it round my waist. Of course I wore a sun visor, I chose a beige one this morning!

I didn’t know if I was going to do 10K or 12K this morning! I decided to wait and see. Maybe if I was close to a 10K PB I would push for that, then stop. Seemed like a reasonable plan!

I set off down the single track road by the river (shown in the photo) and I was off! This road gives me the extra 2K I need onto my 8K circular route. My pace is steady, but not my very slow pace. Sometimes I don’t even admit to myself what my plan is, but it soon becomes clear! I’m trying for another PB πŸ˜€. Otherwise, I would be running more slowly.

I follow the route round and head back towards the village again. I can see that I’m going well and I feel good, increasing pace in the second half of the run. I’m starting to meet traffic, but drivers are polite and give me space.

Glad I wore my sun visor as the sun came out and was shining straight into my eyes for the second half of my run!

It’s going to be close! I’m onto 8K now and trying to work out the maths. Which I never can do when I’m in the middle of a run, especially if I’m trying to work out if a new PB is possible!

I run past my house. I’m not sure I’m going to get my PB until the last kilometre, but I did it and managed to shave more than a minute off my previous time. Also, my last kilometre was my fastest and that always makes me feel good!

A lovely run to set me up for the weekend. The sun is shining now here in the fens and it’s porridge πŸ₯£ for breakfast!

As I don’t seem to be progressing thought it might help.

Have you thought about mixing up your runs a bit more?

I do a couple of 30mins then try a 5k run. My times are basically the same every time.

Try this. One long, very slow run a week. Easy conversational pace! Gradually increase the time spent running week by week by 5-10 minutes.

One short, fast run a week 2-3 km OR intervals - say 60 second running, 90 seconds slow jogging, repeat 10-12 times.

One 5K run. Mixing up your runs this way will help to make you faster!

It does! Thank you. I am amazed I can do it. I just started running long, slow runs on Saturdays and gradually lengthened those runs until I got to 10K. πŸ˜€
