13 months after starting C25K and a couple of months out injured after getting to week 9 run 1, I'm over the moon to finally post that I've done it! 10.17K in 1 h 10 mins, slow for a short 45 year old lass but there are a few steep hills in the gale force wind and rain fighting it all the way (excuses excuses I know) I'm impressed with that. Set off towards Roundhay park an hour later than the ridiculous 'o' clock I usually go out when most people are nicely snuggled up in bed - it is the weekend after all :D. Nearly sacked it off when the howling gales kept me awake half the night and sounded horrific, but glad I kicked myself out of bed. It's only a week since I tested negative after catching Covid despite being triple jabbed, so wasn't expecting to go for the 10K, but being a bit later the sun was just about creeping up enough to light up the lake a little. I've been getting to just over 9K the last few weeks, but its always been too dark to go around the lake (no lights), so I went for it this morning as I knew a lap around the upper lake would get me to 10K. Beautiful. Not a soul about around the lake and the stunning swans just looked magnificent when barely lit up with their feathers in full fan gliding on the glistening lake, it's as though they were saying good morning as the glided by. Came pretty much to a stop just as I finished looping the lake as a dog walker with enormous woofers off the lead looked like they would run after me for fun (the dogs not the walker lol) :S. I'm not good with the canine furries. But after the brief scare, set off back home not feeling crippled yet - I have annoying niggle with the top of my right leg, hip flexor or adductor that keeps getting strained from overuse? Who knows. Anyway I got home in one piece and announced to my cats that I'd finally done it! Sadly eveyone else was sensibly still in bed. They looked at me like I just pooed in their food bowls. So proud of myself and boring my poor 4 and 7 year old to death with the achievement today, but chuffed to bits I've nailed it. Preening Cheshire cat I am today. Next to get that time down..in normal non-gale conditions! Ooh can I have 10K badge please?
Finally nailed 10k!: 13 months after starting... - Bridge to 10K
Finally nailed 10k!

Happy running!
Thank you, having a few cheeky cocktails at home to celebrate and get a lie in tomorrow as it's my partners turn to get up with the girls. Hoorah! ππ
What an achievement and a great time. Iβm aiming for my 10k very soon, canβt wait to feel that moment of elation that you described so well. Well done
Thank you so much Can't wait to see what time I can do in normal weather conditions, without getting injured that is! I think the stunning swans and the gales definately make it even more memorable βΊ Good luck for your imminent 10k, intense elation guaranteed π
Congratulations on completing your first 10K, good time considering the weather conditions and that darned hill, to get your graduation badge and the word GRADUATE10 next to your username follow the link of Instructor57, now go and celebrate your wonderful achievement ππΎ π π
Thanks Al, it means so much to me. It's been a long time coming having to start C25K from scratch again after getting injured so close to graduating the first time. The hill is tough going up to the park as it's 5 mins into the run when I start and so a killer near the end on the way back with tired hip flexors, but has definatley helped strengthen my hamstrings which have bulked up :S. I don't want to look like a body builder though π³ Yes, looking forward to repeating the run in the fresh sunshine next time!
Well done, what a brilliant achievement - and a great time too! It is all the more satisfying when you have battle through injuries to get there - I hope you enjoy a well-deserved rest, and celebratory drink, or two π₯π₯³And be kind to your niggly leg - you don't want to overdo it too soon!
Thank you Woollyweaver - love that name, makes me smile π. Ah yes it wasn't fun having to repeat C25K after injury especially since I got so close to graduating the first time! But since finding James Dunne on You Tube I've not got seriously injured again since, amazing man and wealth of useful knowledge and plethora of great videos. I'm still grinning like a cheshire cat today and surprisingly not very sore at all today - even the normal niggly leg seems not niggly at all today - has the 10K actually fixed it?! Or was it the 4 double vodka cocktails I slurped last night that loosened and fixed everything lol π
π Congrats on your 10k! I can imagine you dancing with cats, well, that's what I'd do anyway. It must feel fantastic! I'm only way to 10k and some good runs give such great high π I love it!
Thank you βΊ Hahahaha, yes I did do a wiggly dance as I was warming down. I was imagining the thought bubbles over my cats heads "mummy's lost the plot, lets see how many treats we can get out of her before she regains her senses" πI'm still hugely elated today especially as I don't feel sore at all, makes a change! Must be getting stronger, or maybe I should have a shedload of vodka on run days like I did last night to ease the muscles. π Like you, I really love it - my partner is still horrified that I get up at 4.45am on run days to get out the door for 5.30am! Needs must, the kids get up at 7am for school I and start work from home at 7.30am so have to get it done, warmed down, rollered and showered early! Totally bonkers but this running lark is addictive π Wishing you a speedy approach to your 10K π
Well done. Thatβs an amazing time too.
A massive well done to you. That is not slow believe me it took my 1 hrs 45 mins my first time only managed it 3 times now on IC si well done indeed ππββοΈ
Thank you so much! It felt really slow fighting that blooming gale force wind all the way out AND back. Why wasn't it behind me to push me along at least one if the ways? Weird. Still feeling fantastic today though- not sore for once! James Dunne on YouTube has been my saviour for keeping off the IC after the first bad injury which took me out for 2 months. Never looked back. And even the niggly leg seems fixed not worse today, go figure! Wishing you a speedy recovery off the IC so you can do another kick ass 10K. π
Thatβs fantastic Minx76, well done! π
Congratulations! I started the C25K last Feb .. completed and ready to smash this 10K! Iβll keep you all posted when Iβve finally achieved it .. wish me luck
Thank you π You started a month after me, so you definately must be close to smashing your 10K out the park! I'm betting you within the next month you'll have nailed it..definatley keep me posted, would be interested to know when you do. I wish you loads of luck, but something tells me you don't need it! π
Congratulations and well done ππ₯³ the first time is always special and youβll always remember it.
Iβm sure the cats were suitably impressed. They always look the same regardless of our achievements π€£
Well done on your first 10k, great achievement particularly in yesterday's wind. π πββοΈ
Thank you so much π I was a bit stumped as to why I was always fighting the gale both outward and inward bound? Weather conspiring against me grrr. Will put on some go faster stripes next time, see if that speeds me along or encourages the wind behind me - or would that be called fart power! π
Oh my God, well done! So jealousβ¦.. I will get there! β€οΈ
Congratulations! That is an aweseme achievement and the time / pace is also great.
Well done! My very first 10km run was about 70 minutes too (69'40"), almost a year ago (7 Feb).
I'm planning to go out and run 21.1km later on this morning. π
Thanks so much π The stats on my Garmin app has quite helpfully has put my 10K time in my stats as 68' 49' as I ran just over 10K. Woo hoo! I didn't even notice that until I was messing about with it today, spookily close to your time! I still haven't worked out everything my Garmin watch/app does π I got the Garmin Venu last Christmas because I wanted to listen to music whilst I run. Not had any music on once yet, too busy concentrating on good running form/breathing/cadence now since completing C25K, how sad am I. James Dunne addict lol. Really need to figure out what I need to do to get music on whilst running now π I hope your long run went well? Wow, I can't wait from maybe a year from now I may be able to double my distance like you. Bring it on! Wind power or fart power I will get there π
Well done you! Excellent work! I went out in my new New Balance shoes from the Up & Running sale and by the top of the road my dodgy knee flared up (again) and I limped home fed up.
Thank you π Oh no! I bet there were many expletives to be spouted! That is just a right pain in the backside, or knees as it stands π£. How frustrating with brand spanking new feet too. If only we could replace the duff parts of our bodies that flare up/ strain/break with slot in replacements..a bit like how dyson vacuums slot together. Bad news, we can't have a garage wall full of the replacement parts π The good news in your knee will sort it's act out..eventually. Hope you get off the IC soon and into your new feet quickly π
Congratulations on completing your first 10K
Very well done to youπππ and I did enjoy your postπ
Fantastic stuff. 10K us a great distance. I am on the comeback trail to 10K myself. It's a great workout and makes you think you really are a proper runner now!
That's so true! When I completed C25K I thought great I've completed the program, but now I can run double the distance without dropping to the payment with imminent lung and heart failure that makes me a proper runner! Not least that I now have more running gear in my wardrobe than normal clothes- M&S' s Goodmove range's finest π
