A dip into podcasts

nowster what did you do?? I’ve been reading your posts for what feels like years now and your mention of what podcast you are listening to piqued my interest. So today was the day.

I’ve been sitting on the couch getting fat long enough, I’ve got a week and a day before I’ll visit the man with the knife so this week plan to run or walk every day.

Tried a podcast instead of music…… crikey, it’s like being part of a conversation. Time passes while running and listening.

Neither of us is very fit at the moment, we are both stressed and a bit sleep deprived so this was never going to be fast. Our usual park, comfortable, familiar and oh my….. the trees are flowering or greening up since our last visit. This track is half a kilometre round so we walk round once to warm up, press the button on our watches and off we go, very slow and steady, 4 times round and a short (very short) sprint to end.

The golf course that hasn’t seen any play for years is part of the regeneration of the whole park so we decide to go see how it’s coming along, I want to measure the new paths to see how far it is round. Willow hasn’t seen what they are doing so i set my watch to a walk and we walk round, it’s beautiful, listening to the birds and looking at the trees. It’s 1.72k round but the other side of the lake is blocked off, I think once finished there will be a nice 2 k loop to run.

We are so pleased we can still run a little and enjoy walking too. Slow but sure and we feel relaxed and happy now.

For the podcast I chose an episode of The School of Greatness about fitness, diet and sleep. I’ve listened to half of it

I took lots of photos on the walk

Happy Easter Monday all

I tend to go for comedy podcasts. Sometimes drama. Occasionally documentary ones.

The one I've been listening to longest (since about 2014) is "No Such Thing As A Fish" where four of the QI Elves gather round and riff around four odd facts that they've discovered in the previous week. You can dip in at any point as they always start afresh each week. There are very few running gags, with the minor exceptions that one of the team isn't on Twitter and at one point they "spoilt" the end of Anna Karenina. As it's a podcast, there's occasional "post watershed" content in the facts.

I always look to see what you are listening to, I’ve listened to a couple of short podcasts before but never while running, so thank you 😊

Glad you managed to get out there today and good luck with your plan to run or walk everyday this week 👍

Thank you, we now have no plans all week so have been talking about where our walk will be tomorrow, it’ll depend on Willows knee which plays up at times, if he can walk we will if he can’t I’ll go for a short run around local roads

That's great, well done. Getting out there every day will help with the stress too. I don't tend to listen to podcasts very often but I have enjoyed the couple of times I have. That sounds like a very interesting podcast you're listening to.

Thank you and yes it really helps with the stress and at the moment we have a lot of that. I finished that podcast during the night when i couldn’t sleep and fell asleep quickly, so i’ve found the answer to laying here worrying too 😀

If I’m doing an interval or speed run I tend to listen to the guides of NRC . However, I’ve shifted from listening to music and much prefer podcasts for longer runs . I find the time passes much more quickly. I’ve been listening to Women’s Running Podcast and Runner’s World Podcast which are fairly entertaining and easy. I must give the other suggestions a go. Happy running.

I have found a new thing to listen to, it’s really like being involved in the conversation for me and very interesting,

Sounds like you have a good place to run and walk! And with a different podcast in the ears every time, you might never get bored of running / walking in the same sport regularly. G'luck with the man with the knife. Hope it's not too bad!
