After 27 runs of varying types I finally got to 10K yesterday! I used Active Network 5-10K. I wasn’t feeling at my best but had set aside the day for this challenge. 73min - is that ok for an oldie (61 female)?
Do folk think it’s better to run with a buddy or on own? I’ve always gone solo.

Two things: don't forget your barcode, and don't get carried away with the pace of the other runners.
Congrats on your first 10K! I am 41 and my own 10K time lies around 82 minutes, so in my opinion 73 minutes is FAST! As to running alone or with someone. I wish I could run with someone, just for safety reasons. But I am too slow and I Jeff my runs, because of which I can't run with anyone. Plus I'd feel obliged to take on the pace of the other person which would probably cause me not to enjoy my run.
Congratulations what a fantastic achievement! I too run on my own, well actually with 3 dogs but I am always doing something different and don’t really have a routine so would be difficulty to coordinate with others, but if you fancy running with others grab a friend or join park run
Congratulations on your first 10k Gmhmd1 ! But an oldie?! 😱 Forget that, I'm also a 61 year old female and no way do I consider myself an oldie! 🤣
I wouldn't worry about time. I've done 10k faster and slower than that, but comparisons aren't really helpful as so much depends on where you're running and what you want to get out of your run. I like hilly trails and elevation, others prefer speed.
As for running solo, it's what I do all the time, in the countryside and through the forest, though I realise that this isn't for everyone.
Massive congratulations! 🙌 🌟It’s a great milestone to reach. I bet you feel a huge sense of achievement.✨I do both: sometimes I run with M, and those are a mix of us following guided sessions (using virtual coaches for, say, speed intervals) or else very leisurely runs just for a chat. But many runs are solo and all my long runs are because m
M doesn’t do that distance. It’s nice to mix things up.
Well done huge congratulations . I've only managed 2 10ks and I think my time was near 2hours😁 but then again I am an oldie 😁 I just plod on my own hoping each day to improve not really following anything, just happy that I can actually jogHappy running
Snap! I've also done 2 10ks that take almost 2 hours. I hope to get that time down eventually but I love running for the sake of it. It makes me feel fitter and stronger and I wouldn't be without it.
Fantastic - congratulations!!! 🍾🥂🥇🎉🏆🎊 I am 63 and it takes me 90 mins to do 10k so I consider you to be greased lightning 🤣🤣🤣. I have tried running with others a couple of times but I prefer to run on my own so that I can find my own pace without worrying about holding anyone back. I also enjoy just zoning out when I run.
Congratulations!👏👏 that's a great time. Like many others in this thread I prefer solo running as I can do my own thing and not worry about holding anyone else up.
