Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good afternoon Damien, on a beautiful first day of summer weather wise morning I was a marshall at Palacerigg Country Parkrun, this was my 16th time as a volunteer, I have been a marshall 7 times and a tailwalker 9 times, 67 ran, jogged or walked this trail course, I heard a couple of woodpeckers which was nice to listen to, it was the photographers 60th birthday so there was birthday 🎂 cake at the finishing line.
I traveled this morning with my 2 parkrun tourist friends to run at Tullow parkrun. It was a beautiful 2 lap course with baby reindeers, a duck pond and a beautiful forest trail. I settled into the run at a nice comfortable pace and really enjoyed it. I started near the back and was passing other runners out as I went along. I didn’t look at my watch at all and was surprised that I felt as comfortable as I did because I crossed the finish line in a time of 26:29 and in 24 position. My friend Petula was 1 second ahead of me and was the Second Lady home. Ida, Petula and myself had a lovely post parkrun coffee and headed home. Still travelling as I type. Have a great weekend everyone.
Congratulations to you Damien Ida and Petula on having a lovely morning at Tullow parkrun, the name Petula Clark reminds me of the million seller of the 1960's song Downtown.
Parkrun #106 today and I inadvertently tested a feature of my Garmin watch. I was at Sandringham which has a combination of paths and trails. The RD talk before the start mentions the usual hazards. Anyway, just over 4K in I tripped over a tree root and fell over. My Garmin watch triggered Incident Detection and started the process of sending a message to my emergency contact. I was OK and the only thing hurt was my pride and ego. After I realised nothing was broken I got up and finished the parkrun. My wife sent me a message saying "what happened" as Garmin messaged her. When I took the tumble my watch stopped and says I ran 4.3K. I found our later my official time for the whole PR was 22:39.
I guess its good knowing this feature is present and could be useful if you are out on your own and something serious happens.
Ooh I think feature is on my hubbys new watch, just ordered, I will look out for such messages. 😂. Good to know it works though. We had someone at parkrun once with an Apple Watch whose emergency setting got started by a rather enthusiastic dog barking next to her.
Wow that is a fantastic feature. Super well done on an amazing finish time especially considering the trip you had along the way. Good to hear you were not injured. Hope you are still OK.
Glad you’re ok 00marks! My watch also tried to send an incident message today: the chap who finished in front of me stopped really suddenly at the start of the funnel, so I had to slam the breaks on…queue incident report sending…🙄 Mine failed to send, but maybe it’s just as well!
I was so surprised when the watch started buzzing and the screen flashed up that it was sending a message to my emergency contact. I couldn't figure out how to cancel it. After the message was sent there was a screen asking if I was OK and so I responded that I was.
It was another tourist parkrun for me and @upthestanley today damienair , but not for the first time. Queen Elizabeth Country Park is on the South Downs Way and includes hills! We went here for a HU meet up last July, but JonathanP was unable to join us for medical reasons, so we promised to do it again when he was fit. Today was the day that we , and Oldgirlruns , met up with him.
The course is one small loop and one big loop so there is no lapping by faster runners. It was dry and mainly sunny but with a strong NE wind. Conditions on the course were not bad, with only one short muddy section. I discovered I’m not bad at running on the the flat, and quite fast at running downhill but I was mostly walking up the hills. To give you an idea, my 3rd km took 9.50, and my 4th was 5.58.
A great place to earn that Q in the alphabet, and many of the runners were tourists doing exactly that. The parkrun time was a bit out I think, but these things happen. Garmin 38:51 and parkrun 39:59. At least they show me as sub 40!
Of course it wouldn’t be parkrun without a visit to the cafe for a natter over hot drinks. Unfortunately the chap I asked to take our photo was standing directly into the sun! 😂
Very well done Dexy. My watch was a little out today too. I think it was affected by the forest canopy. Great running and hiking. Sounds like it was a mountain run.
Hello PR pals 👋 We’re down in Devon this weekend (Okehampton to be precise) on a choir trip. I dragged Mr Cheeky along and we stayed in an Airbnb with Flossie (don’t do mass sharing I’m afraid!!)
One of my choir buddies is an avid speedy parkrunner and suggested we do one. There isn’t one in Okehampton, Exeter Riverside was cancelled for some reason today, and the rest seemed overly hilly. I managed to find Teignmouth Promenade, about 40 minutes away. A lovely 2.5 lap loop up and down the sunny prom, with a refreshing northerly wind to cool us in the warm June sunshine.
I combined mine with W6R2 of the NRC plan and attempted intervals. A bit tricky with lots of runners around, but managed to go a bit faster and a bit slower when required! Lots of fun.
Back for breakfast and singing to follow this afternoon 🎶🎶
It’s a nice PR Dexy5 . Slow to start with, but nice because we did skinny ’circular’ laps of the prom as there’s a low path and a high path, so no danger of. crashing into oncoming runners like can happen at Clevedon!
A fab run thanks damienair ! And we had a great singsong too . As we sing ‘off book’ at concerts, I was pleased a friend had brought along a cheat sheet with the words to a couple of the songs I haven’t yet mastered! This was a dry run for our upcoming concerts in July. 🎶
40 minutes is a mere short hop for globetrotting chipmunks isn’t it Cheeky? 😂 Glad you managed to find a nice one and your weather looks decidedly better than here
Haha yes indeed Sandie1961 ! I’m relieved my friend thought nothing of a 40 minute drive either, and luckily she also is an early bird. The weather was fantastic yesterday and today it’s even better. Hope yours perked up. ☀️
Good afternoon Damien and all, it’s been a few weeks! At home today, 397 at Stratford upon Avon today. We both guessed very badly, me at 420 and Katnap at 500. Everyone was very spread out.
I’ve been doing 5k a Day in May, so this was my 32nd out of 31 days, a bit over achieving 😂 Building my base for Berlin training and also reminding myself that I can do hard things, after I failed to do it in January. It was my 3 time doing it and possibly the easiest both physically and mentally, so I’m very pleased. It’s been a tough few weeks at work, so it’s been quite the tonic.
Katnap ran with me until the final straight today, which was nice as I’d forgotten my headphones. We took it fairly steady on a windy day that was actually quite warm once we got going. Nothing overly special to report. Eldest kitten was timekeeping, youngest kitten was back home in Manchester nursing a cold rather than being a pacer at his local.
Post run breakfast at our favourite cafe afterwards, just missing a Shake-and-run really. Marshalling next Saturday as I’m trying to give myself the best prep in order to try and finally break 60 minutes at the Two Castles 10k next Sunday 🤞
Have a great runny week everyone 🥳🥳 Don’t forget it’s Global Running Day on Wednesday!!
Thanks JP… you may have noticed I’ve not been on here as much…I’ve not been cooking as much either, or going to the gym, or… I suppose I’ll have to study for that exam I’ve got next month now as well 😫
Good afternoon everyone! The weather in Lincolnshire was distinctly un-Junelike at 12c with thick cloud and a chilly wind this morning, but, after last week’s tourism, it was back to Market Rasen. I finished in 33.25, which was 26 seconds faster than Yarborough 2 weeks ago and another 2024 fastest time 🥳🥳 Also fastest in my age category (although there were only 3 of us and 1 of the others was Tailwalker 😂😂)
Last minute as usual. One of the volunteers joked that they were just waiting for me.
A bit quieter than last week, with only 92 runners/walkers.
Some usual faces were absent today, too.
The slightest chill in the air which made for ideal running conditions in tee shirt and shorts.
I'm currently fighting off the first signs of a cold (tickle in nose and throat with a slight cough) so didn't intend to push things today.
My aim today was to have the minimum of walk breaks and also not stray into Heart Rate Zone 5. I succeeded in that by only having one walk break which was less than 10 seconds, and not spending any time in Z5 (I got very close, though).
The usual mixture of people in the park. Two Labradors chasing each other over a ball. An elderly family group who walk the route in the opposite direction, who I hadn't seen during the winter.
I did speed up towards the end but wasn't going all out.
Afterwards a little chat with various groups and clapping in some of the finishers.
Official time: 30:40 which I'm really pleased with. 43rd out of 92.
As Dexy5 has posted, this was a much-delayed visit to QECP today with the Southsea crew - I had missed out on last summer's meet up but believe that our initial plan to come was stymied by the first lockdown - a lifetime ago!
It was a gorgeous setting and I really enjoyed the run - it started halfway up a hill, followed by a long sweep downhill on a grassy path, which seemed to go on for ever. In the second lap we had to run (or walk) up the whole hill - I managed the former, much to my surprise!
The time was a bit academic but I'll take 34.57 Garmin even if the official time was 35.30. Coffee, cake and chat followed as always - very civilised.....😀
Go glad you got to visit QECP at last Jonathan! I remember that 2nd lap with the long hill. I was doing so well chugging up and had my sights set on a volunteer who I assumed was standing at the turnoff where you go downhill again, except there was 500m still to go! Cruel, and that’s where I had to walk. I’m impressed you kept on going, it’s a toughie! 🥵
That hill is brutal - didn’t even attempt to run the steep bit on lap 2 this time. Watch wouldn’t lock in under the trees, so thankfully I don’t know my splits, but haven’t slowed up too much since last year - 28’17”, just 0.1% off my age grade.
Just looked back at last year's Garmin trace. After going round the corner at the start of lap 2, you gain 26m of altitude in 210m of running (or walking in my case yesterday) - 1in 8 as near as a gnat's gnadger! The total climb at the start of lap 2 is 56m in 1160m, including 400m of flat in the middle.
Don’t delay. You do not need to run, you can walk it all if you want. The beautiful thing about parkrun is that it can be what ever you want it to be. So don’t worry about being ready before you go to your first one. Just register on the parkrun website and bring your barcode.
Went to Lister Park parkrun yesterday we seem seem to have made this our local parkrun now because it flatter than my home course and that's Shroggs Park. Was quicker by 20 seconds this week but still down on my pb by at least 90 seconds ,hopefully that comes back in time. Well done everyone 👏
Well I was behind my PB for 5 years, and earlier in the year I was 10 minutes away from my PB. I managed to get a new parkrun PB last weekend, so if I can do it you can too. Well done on your parkrun.
