5k Finish lines

Probably a bit ambitious feeling as tired as I do, but after some comments on Birdlady64 post last night I thought I better go. I didn’t promise but nearly did

We didn’t get up very early and then there were a few things blocking us, first Willow plugged in his phone to charge then he plugged in his watch which kept syncing and not charging very well, then I couldn’t find my gloves, I mean, I know exactly where they were and have been for a year or more but sadly they aren’t there any longer, so the search began, Willow found me a couple of pairs of gloves, but not the ones i run in, streaky brown and orange fingerless gloves that i knitted a few years ago, I’ll have to knit some more. Then Willow realised he’d left an earbud in the car so no music for him.

At last we are off to the river!

Bright blue sky and sunshine! We knew it would be busy but a wide enough track for all.

Oh my legs are tired, we set off Willow soon way ahead of me but no point trying to keep up, oh! he’s walking already! oh running again, ha! he’s jeffing, gave it some thought but decided against. Every 500m coach cuts in over the music and says a sentence that I have to finish, so some thought going on in my head. My legs are weeping though, questions, best advice I was ever given about running was….SLOW DOWN….. that one was easy.

Best teacher ever was…. my daughter….

and as I run very slowly and gently finishing the lines I smile and say hello to people, a young lady passes me, looking like she’s putting in no effort at all so I up my pace to keep up which I can’t, glance at the watch and pace is 7mpk no wonder i can’t keep up so I ease back smile and keep going.

So, on it goes until I turn and then ooo the sun is low and straight in my eyes, I can no longer see if people are smiling hello as i pass them so I smile and nod to everyone going the other way.

Some runs are tough some runs are easy some runs leave you feeling exhilarated and some runs just have to be got through.

5k done, walk back over the bridge to find Willow stretched out in the car with his eyes closed face towards the sun, he might have been snoozing. He turned at 1k and jeffed back, way faster than me and we high fived as we passed each other, he had a lovely short run which he really enjoyed 😀

Oh and I don’t know what’s wrong with my Amazon music but every playlist says missing tracks so i quickly opened spotify and listened to something i don’t know

Well done! The weather was certainly perfect for it here this morning. It's really annoying isn't it when you discover that something is not where you left it! 😁

I saw your comment when I woke this morning about a promise, thought i better go, I’m sure if I knit another pair of gloves mine will leap out at me waving 👋 but they don’t take long to make

Of course they'll turn up as as soon as you have new ones. I haven't knitted for years but gloves always seemed too complicated to me.

I used to do hats and mittens for charity with all my odd balls of wool so got quite quick at them, I’ve started a pair this evening but going to work in half an hour so won’t be knitting much more, there’s no hurry, it’s rarely cold enough for gloves here

What a glorious blue sky in the photo. You did brilliantly to get out given the demands your are under (and in your substitute gloves). Loved imagining you two doing a high-five pass! 🙌🙌

Well done a nice 5 km. lovely day for a riverside run , a grey old day here, Mr D first day back at work and would have been mine but pcr test for day 2 private came back unclear so taking a local pcr one tomorrow , hopefully will get back results quickly and negative. All lateral flow tests negative. Retirement year I think like yours sola if I remember. 😊👏

I’m due to retire in a couple of weeks but have opted to carry on for a while. Shame about your test hope the next one is negative

It’s a pain when they come back inconclusive as you have to wait for the next one to come back

You have to love a bit of faffery before a run Sola but you got out in the end and by the sound of it had a good run!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Oldgirlruns

It was a hard slog but good to be out in the sun, I read the other day that track goes on for 37 miles and keep wanting to go a bit further to see what’s round the corner

Oldgirlruns profile image

37 miles? Ultra marathon aims?!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Oldgirlruns

Ha ha not at the moment, just round the next corner to see what’s there 😂 but who knows one day?

Thanks Jools I’m hoping to fit a few shorter runs in this week then a longer one on my next day off but i keep waking up tired

Nice pic! As to trying to keep up with other people, I can't. I even get problems when someone is running behind me, then past me because the sound of their feet causes me to have trouble keeping to my own pace. In any case, everybody is faster than me and if I try to keep up with someone, I lose the fun in the run. So well done for going back and keeping to your own pace!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to

If someone passes me i always up my pace to see how long I can run faster but then once it becomes uncomfortable I drop back to my snail pace, I love running faster but can’t keep it up for long
