One year ago a text from my daughter changed what we do for fun, today Willow ran 5k and I ran 8k

Lately Willow has been running shorter and shorter times going off too fast and wearing himself out and we couldn’t work out why. We discussed it last night and wondered if it wasn’t the extra half stone we are both carrying but not running to music so this morning he once again ran with Cold Play in his ears and a nice slow pace til he got to 5k when a strange pain went through his foot and he retired to the car but the longest time and longest distance for months he’s so chuffed

Me stubborn thing that i am continued on and on a bit more, when i passed the recommended lock down one hour I started to feel a bit guilty but there were people walking there dogs who were walking there dogs before we even got to the park so i carried in

💥 Boom 8k

I have always believed 8k was 5 miles but apparently it’s 4.97 miles

I meandered a bit saw some lovely flowers trees and wildlife and got very hot but i feel great now and if times were normal i could go for a walk now

We hadn’t seen the beach for weeks I darent go down to the sea or my shoes would have been off in a flash and i’d have been swimming

Well done on your respective 5k and 8k runs! Beautiful day for it today - I finally got out for my first recovery run after struggling with shin splints. I'm glad I went early as it feels pretty warm now. Lovely photos 😀

Beautiful collage, including a nice coastal view - like you packed a whole day out into your hour outside. And congrats on your runs!

Yes, worked from home yesterday so did a lot of reading and computer filing day off today and going in to work over the weekend to do things that have to be done there

Great effort on those runs and lovely photos. As far as I’m aware there’s no regulation on time/distance spent running. The social distancing is far more important. Take care and happy running 🤗

Government first recommended one hour a day for exercise but if you look deeper it’s one hour for walking and half hour for running so i just pretended i hadn’t read that bit, i planned on one hour but it’s so lovely i just carried on and as said before there were dog walkers who were out longer than me

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Michael Gove gave a random 30min for a run but there are no regulations on time. We must all stay local and practice social distancing. Only in Wales is there a limit to once a day. So run happy.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGrannyhugs

You mean i can go out more than once a day?

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Only once a day is not in law but guidelines do say minimise time out with the home and practice social distancing. The less we leave home the less likely we are to meet others and spread the virus. I work on the basis that my longer runs take me quickly to the countryside away from people, if I kept with say 1km for 30mins I'd meet way more people than on my 10k countryside route. I try to limit visit to shops to once a fortnight- quick in and out for essentials only. Desperate to stay clear of virus so I can see daughter and grandson when restrictions are lifted.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGrannyhugs

Very sensible, i go to work and walk most the time on days off i make sure we have a longer exercise time outside hence the longer run, Willow shops about once a week and sometimes i go and get the things he didn’t get on my day off but mostly i think about it a bit and decide i don’t really need those things and add them to the list for next week,

Stay safe and let’s hope it won’t be long before you can get those hugs in, i miss my children and grands but we keep in touch daily and as my daughter works for nhs and i work for social care we wouldn’t risk meeting up

GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

You are all working so hard to keep the rest of us safe. It’s only right that we do our bit and stay home. Thank you 🙏🤗

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGrannyhugs

I do enjoy staying home too and we thank you all for keeping a safe distance from others to minimize the spread of this horrible virus

Our 1st minister gave a lovely analogy saying we weren’t all in the same boat, we were in different boats in the same storm. I currently feel I’m one of the lucky ones in a million pound yacht who has been given permission to relax, enjoy the garden, chat constantly online to family and friends, go for runs and the only thing I have to do to maintain this lifestyle is avoid people. Truly blessed 🥰

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGrannyhugs

Sounds like a dream come true, i’m in a rather dodgy rowing boat weathering the storm between the peace and calm of home and the tempest of sound and people that is work, we are now wearing masks and shields when we come within 2 meters of anyone there which is most of the time, we go to work in clothes walk through disinfectant change our clothes and wash our hands then work a few hours and do the whole thing in reverse, it’s tiring

My mother in law in a home was tested for covid today, we all suspect it's a urinary infection but it must be terrifying for the care staff while they await results. Much love and hugs to you all🤗🥰

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGrannyhugs

Yes it is terrifying, we take temperatures and oxygen levels twice daily and worry if someone’s is even a little higher than usual

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Unfortunately mother in laws results have come back positive, suspect father in law will be positive too. Awful to end your life / having to work in a care home without throwing covid-19 into the mix too. Hope you all stay clear of it. 🤗

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGrannyhugs

I’m so sorry to hear your news, I will hope it’s mild and your mother-in-law recovers as many thousands do and your father-in-law doesn’t get it or even if he does it’s mild and they can both be well

Healing thoughts for you in this time of worry, take care of yourself

Thank you, unfortunately she is incredibly frail and has alzheimer's he has heart failure and is alive through sheer bad temper. I feel so sorry for everyone involved. They've both had a great life and the last few years have been pretty rubbish for them. Take care both xx

8k!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

How did it feel?

Well done on your run to both of you. Did you manage ok in the heat?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to

We love the sun, i ran in shorts and a little tee shirt and it was brilliant, i hoped for 6k wondered if i could do 7k and my dream was 8k so i realized my dream, it was slow the music was good the things we saw were fab, when we got to the seafront Willow walked on the beach and I ran along the path at the top and felt i could run forever it was amazing

in reply toSueAppleRun

See, this is what it's all about. Go as far as you feel you can and whatever that looks like then it'll be enough. Realizing a dream is so lovely. I'm totally made up for you. Absolutely brilliant. You know I'm asking you to give me 10k right? You can do it. By July?

I'll have a wine on you two tonight 🍷

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to

Enjoy your wine and that 10k may have happened today but I thought Willow had waited long enough for me, i will get there with one long run a week

Well done you for running 8k! Such a beautiful day to do it too. Such a shame for Willow but now he's back in to the swing of it I'm sure he'll enjoy it all the more. It's all about what's the right thing for you isn't it? He obviously likes to listen to his music - I like podcasts. Hopefully your weather will continue to be good so that you can get out more. Our weather here is due to deteriorate so I'm getting out in the garden frantically trying to get some more jobs done before the rain comes - I don't mind running in the rain 😊
