The first of the month! My day off! and a text from my boss to let me know the CQC report is in and although we fell down in a couple of areas those are things we have very little control over the report was overall good so we are so pleased all our hard work over the years has recognition.
I sat in bed with a cup of tea saying I wanted to go for a run and then put some thought into what I want out of it. It’s been a grotty year in so many ways and I am so thankful that we and our families and most our friends are alive and well
Two Covid jabs, one flu jab and one booster jab, every single one made me feel awful for days, then the cold that’s lasted a month. Short staff at work, people sick, people isolating has meant lots of extra hours, last week alone was 12 hours overtime. Then Covid struck!!! everyone who lives there and in the end 14 staff went down with it including the boss . The paperwork for each one a flipping joke, CQC and I knew some of my work wasn’t up to date, but it all ended ok
I’ve run C25K with Jo which taught me I can run faster but end up shattered. I’m a great one for advice and Willow runs for 20 minutes and nearly every time I advise him to increase a few minutes a week, he’s a very amenable guy but he’s stuck to his guns this time and runs for 20 minutes and stops 😄
So, what would I advise myself? Run for me!!!
I chose ‘another long run’ on the NRC app, chose a playlist on spotify and off we went…..
Warm up walk, a few photos of the park and start to jog, slowly, Coach Bennett talks about form, progression, running easy and mitrocondia during this run, music plays songs old and new,
I glance at Garmin and think “oh wow this is slow” then tell myself off for caring how slow it is, it’s about the pace we ran after we finished C25K still puffing and planting away. Today was easy, barely breathing deeply or faster than usual. The sun came out my jacket came off and I’m running in December with bare arms, it’s the best. Willow finished his run and sat on the bench, as I passed I said I’ve got about another 15 minutes so he wandered across the grass through the wood to the car.
I extend my run round the little river, stop on the bridge to take a photo of ducks and 3 cygnets, run on again, I’ve speeded up a bit and my calves are aching I can just feel them so slow down again.
42 minutes of pure relaxed pleasure, a smile on my face all the way as I say hello to dogs and their humans, no trying to keep up with Willow, no trying to run as often or as far as Jo, just for me and I enjoyed it so much, reading others running adventures keeps me enthused so thank you all 😀
Have the best December ever

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Your post so inspired me I have just been out again on my rest day. Run had to be abandoned (not your fault ) but was great fun.
Running on your rest day can lead to abandonment, I was wondering earlier if I could fit a short fast run in this evening while Willow does some recording with someone and realised that would be silly as i’m back at work in the morning, Hope you aren’t injured
Congratulations on the good CQC report.. no wonder you feel more relaxed now and had such a good run. Appreciate the collage of photos and the good wishes.. happy December to you two too ☺️
Lovely photos.🍂 We are lucky I guess with the weather, though it feels weird sometimes being out running on an overcast day - when it looks cold but it's actually quite warm. ❓Congrats on your good news and work and enjoying your running. 👏
I feel like I've run some of that with you😊 Lots of wild life about to make it even more interesting. I think those "running just for you" runs are always the best. Your enjoyment shines through your words.Let's hope next year we can kick Covid in the butt and get on with our lives. And thank you for all the work you've put in looking after the people in your care. I know I couldn't do it so I respect and appreciate those of you that do. I just wish that you all got the respect in the form of decent wages for that work.
Thank you so much, trouble is we fall in love with them a little so although i can retire in january I’m not going to just yet lol. We’ve done the bulk of our Christmas shopping since I wrote that
It was Maddee, I get cross with myself when I think I should be faster or run further, I’m almost 66 and work more than full time hours most weeks, I sometimes expect too much of myself
And thank goodness for this forum where we can share our running experiences, it makes me laugh when I think back to week 1 and how we ran those one minutes at flat out speeds panting as if it would be our last gasp 😂
Exactly, they were so tough that my 45 yr old daughter couldn’t finish run 1 week 1 then text me all about it so i just had to get out there and do it didn’t i? poor Willow just came along to watch in a right grumpy mood because he thought we were too old to run….
Great post from you Willow. I bet that’s a lot of your mind with your good report, your post sounds so happy and beaming with enthusiasm after all your troubles. Your photos are really good so peaceful, even it looks good there for a walk. Glad your enjoyed your run today no pressure and running like how u want. Happy day’s 😁
How wonderful. How you manage to fit this all in is amazing! Once again, I am inspired! I have my daughter staying with us for a few days as she is off work with pregnancy morning sickness and exhaustion, so wanted some company as her partner is at work all day. So busy keeping her company and working full time at home this week. Tomorrow morning I will try to get out for an early run, inspired by you! 😊
Well done on all levels WillandSola. That looks a great place to run. I find running near water so calming and just love seeing the progress of the cygnets . Flying lessons were happening on our lake yesterday which is always amusing as they just get going when they have to land again as it’s not very long.
Great run just for you Sola. Well done. So pleased the CQC was kind to you. Take care and I agree always run just for you. Relax and enjoy. 🤣🏃♀️🤣🏃♀️🤣🏃♀️🤣
Well done on getting a good CQC report. If it’s anything like Ofsted, it’s sooooooo stressful and it doesn’t matter what anyone says, you take it personally. Sounds like your run was liberating! A slow run is just the best and I’m loving running in this cold weather 🥶😊
As usual, you are an inspiration, always so positive. I live reading your accounts, full if joy, whatever is going on in your lives. Soooo glad to hear the QCQ was good; I know what Ofsted is like so sympathise with what you have gone through, a little! I say that as I don't think I could do your job, though, like teaching it must be a vocation. Keep enjoying your running and posting . 🤗🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Thank you, working with people isn’t for everyone but is very rewarding, we’ve lived knowing CQC would arrive one day, now we can relax and enjoy Christmas planning, running gives a good balance to work Children aaah, teaching, once a dream but I’ve worked with children and would take adults any day
just a lovely post and great pictures! Congratulations, we're like that when we get the ofsted and other audit reports, such a good feeling isn't it when you get a report that on the whole is positive, particularly after the last 18 months!😃🏃♀️
Yes very, they came because of the way covid spread throughout the home but our infection prevention is spot on, it’s just the way people move around in and out of all buildings, but it’s the one thing that makes us tremble lol
A lovely post for a lovely run! Sorry to hear about your workmates getting Covid - that must have put a huge amount of additional pressure on staffing. Glad that you avoided it though.
I love your approach to this run. Its something I've started doing as well - deliberately keeping the pace slow and comfy. Its just a fabulous feeling doing a long run at a liw heart rate/slow pace!
So pleased you had a kindly cqc, I bet your run was all the more relaxed for it. The jabs took it out of me too, especially the booster. Nice to have them out of the way in time for Christmas though!
