Experimental 4km (W8R1)

Well, my best laid plans were somewhat derailed by my husband contracting Covid the same night as my last 9km run! I’ve also been quite under the weather although have tested negative every day but with us isolating separately in the same house, a very busy week at work and having to manage everything at home while feeling unwell I wasn’t up to a run last week (I don’t legally need to self-isolate as I’m double jabbed but I also wanted to avoid others as much as possible so only went out for essential supply runs).

So, a whole week off but I was feeling better this morning so decided to do an experimental 4km and all went well - it was a bit hotter than I’d have liked but I didn’t struggle with the distance and managed 4km exactly in 27:49, a pace of 6:57/km. I’ll see how I feel in a couple of days and then make a decision about Weds but was glad to be back out!

Great to hear you are feeling better and enjoyed your run this morning. Hoping your husband has a speedy recovery with no lingering effects. Happy running 🤗

Thank you, he’s feeling much better already and looking forward to getting out of isolation on Thursday, although not sure what this will do to his marathon training so let’s see. I really enjoyed being back out after a week away!

Oh dear! Wishing you and hubby health. I can imagine it’s difficult and worrying to isolate in the same household and to support each other at the same time through COVID illness. So sending strength and health wishes. Hope you both are keeping well!

And great for that 4K run! I find every run I do makes me feel stronger.

Thanks so much - yes, a very stressful week especially as we’d had contact with my mum and baby niece but everyone else negative and he’s on the mend now so that’s good!

Sorry that you and your husband have been unwell but good to hear that he is recovering and you are ok too. Well done on getting back out there to run today too - bet that felt good!🙂

Thank you, Sandra - it definitely did, I was getting itchy after going no further than the corner shop all week!

I know that feeling! It's frustrating not being able to run when you want to.

Oh no! Wishing hubby a swift recovery, and here's hoping you get yourself back on track soon - that 10k will be waiting for you when you are ready. Take care 🤗

Oh that’s tough you were well on your way as well, hope you and hubby feel better soon what a tough week you’ve had. Good 4K though so I doubt it’s affected your 10k plan . Happy running and freedom!

Thank you, hoping I’m still on course as it was only a week off so let’s see, if I’m fully better in next couple of days I should be fine! Freedom is lovely :)

Well nice work, well done on your 4K despite feeling under the weather. I’m feeling like this too, I’m now trying to get to 5k, I started with c25k but I haven’t finish it I switched to NRC, I’m getting better little by little today I want to try 3k but not sure how it’s going to go down, last week I failed at it and today I’m still kind of run down but I will try again! Feel better soon mancrunner1 😊

Thank you so much! Having been a runner for many years before starting C25K after a break, there’s no better way for getting yourself up to bigger distances, would you think about going back to it? I initially did it on my own about 12 years ago and it was much harder that way. With the programme and then the magic plan I’ve gone from nothing to 9km in 16 weeks with no aches and pains and never been unable to finish a run so I really do think it works. Definitely wait until you’re feeling better though and best of luck with your 3km!

Thats great you got your 4k run completed. Life does keep getting in the way of training plans! Good you're feeling better and hope your partner recovers well too.
