Coldvid recovery 4km with new trainers

I’ve been on the sofa with a stinking cold that apparently isn’t covid. Five negative tests but it feels the same as last time I had it. I’ve felt absolutely rubbish and done pretty much nothing.

While I was doing convalescing, I finally got round to replacing my worn out trainers with a shiny new pair. They arrived a few days ago and I’ve been itching to give them a go. Today was the day. The plan was a slow, flat 3km because I last ran ten days ago and was still a bit snotty. Once I got laced up and out there it was a different story. The new shoes felt fantastic and I ended up flying round 4km 2 minutes faster than I’ve ever done it before. 2 whole minutes! There was even a hill. I don’t know if it was the trainers, the ten days of recovery or what but I’ll take that. It’s so nice to be back out there again. I’ll try a slower 5km in a couple of days and see about some sort of longer run later in the week.

Excellent run Miss Understanding in your new shoes, well done on that two minutes quicker than ever before, you must be very pleased with yourself 😊 🏃🏾

I was thrilled with the time. It felt quite fast as I was doing it but I’m not always that good at judging. It was really great to be back out there feeling good after what felt like quite a big break. It’s the longest I’ve gone without doing anything since starting c25k in January.

It's good you've got back out there after illness. It doesn't sound like you've lost any fitness and new shoes as well. Win, win.

Thanks-I’d read that you don’t lose fitness in a couple of weeks but I’ve been lucky enough to not have to take such a long rest before! Because I felt so rubbish, it didn’t feel like a genuine recovery time!

Thanks! I hadn’t realised how much my old ones had lost their mojo. They’re going to be walking ones from now on. We’ve done a fair few miles-I feel quite irrationally sad moving them on!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets attached to their old running shoes. I still have the pair that got me through c25k the first time I did it about 5 years back! 😅 They're way past their use by date but I can't bring myself to throwing them away

Ooo 2 whole minutes faster, and recovered from a cold, that’s fantastic, could be a bit of running on fresh legs after a break. it hope it’s the trainers 😀

It probably was the fresh legs! I think I’ll be taking a few more recovery days in future! It was a great feeling
