4km, hip pain and limped home

I went out for a morning run yesterday, looking forward to exploring a new route and aiming for 5km. Went via the allotment and checked my crops, picked a couple of runner beans to munch on, then continued along to the exploring part of my run. I suddenly had a pain in my left hip. I think it’s muscular, but whatever the cause it wasn’t a pain to run through. I stopped, restesd a few minutes, stretched it out, but the pain was going nowhere and neither was I. I turned around and limped slowly home. Been resting it today while sitting working, and will only run again when it’s healed up. It just feels very wrong, but does feel like it is easing and mending. Hope it’s better before I lose my impetus.

Eek! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Are you running in new or old shoes?

Have you got more than 1 pair of running shoes?

Old. I bought new Karrimors, exactly like my old ones. Got them from Amazon coz won't go to Sports Direct again. They came in right box but completely wrong shoe and didn't fit. Then I found Sports Direvt own Karrimor so I'm still dealing with them and they are still useless. Shoes have been returned. Waiting for money back...

☹️

If you're otherwise happy with your old shoes try getting a fresh pair of insoles to give them a bit more life.

Good idea. Have just checked mileage and I've still got another 50km to do in them before I should replace them. I've already started painting in them and got black paint on the toe.

I was really shocked to see the state of the insoles in a pair of shoes that lasted me for 600km. There was still loadsa tread on them and I wished I already knew about the trick of changing the insoles to keep them going!

Sports Direct also own Gelert brand. Some people have had joy with Aldi and Lidl own brand shoes if you're looking for a bargain.

I think UNM is trying some out at the mo.

Oh Baddie, I wonder what happened? Let’s hope it’s nothing long lasting. 🤞🤞🤞

Old age on the left side I think!

Just as you were enjoying your running again, what a stinky bit of luck. Take it easy.

Eek, as a sufferer of intermittent hip pain I feel for you. Mine actually gets worse if I sit or stay in the same position for too long, keep mobile with short walks or stretches during the working day so it doesnt seize up. Take care 🤗

I have problems where my legs plug in. It's part of the AS. I think it will settle and yes you're right, gentle moving is good. Easing gradually 🙂

Hopefully it's just a muscle niggle. As a fellow allotmenteer, I think I injure myself more on the allotment than running! Take care and hopefully a couple of days rest will see it off!

That’s awful, glad you feel like it’s on the mend. Maybe time to find yourself a new favourite pair of trainers too. Rest, recover, run!

Oh no Baddie, I wonder what that can be? I do hope it feels better soon. It was a perfect summer to have an allotment with little else on the cards. I’ve just got pots of tomatoes and cut again lettuce and they have been doing brilliant. My sweet peas are covered in greenfly though , just like The 1976 drought

Oh no, I hope it is just a temporary problem.

No point in trying to run until it's healed. You won't enjoy it and you might do more harm. Hope that doesn't take too long. You'll soon be back on track.

Oh BTP so sorry to hear about your hip pain. Of course you’re doing the right thing to rest it😉. So much better than running and feeling cautious.

🤔 After a week of DIY (and still not complete 🥴), I’m aching myself. I was thinking about going out for a walk and a very short run later. I’m on a 3 days per week Quest. I don’t like to give in, but listen to the body we must. 🤗 I may just focus on finishing and leave it until tomorrow.

Hope you’re back very soon! Take care and rest well! ❤️

I'm very good at resting, I've had lots of practice. (That might be part of the problem!)

Aah...but I know you’re very good at running too BTP. Being good at both is pretty cool!! 😎❤️

Sounds very annoying Baddie! Hopefully it will resolve soon - if not, you might be rivalling Jimi Hendrix ?😜
