Had a tough week at work honestly the pandemic has turned the general public into moany people and they couldn’t give a brass monkey for anyone else ( I’m trying to be polite)
All this stress means my shoulders are by my ears and not sure if the running was helpful, Monday’s 4K was fine as that’s my wfh day but Wednesday I was up at 5:30 and in my office dealing with the general public so no time for a morning run which really played on my mind. Once home and in between picking hubby up from work I did my 5k well it was exhausting as really warm but I did it nothing special but it was done and I felt the stresses (apart from the shoulders) slipping away.
Friday is usually a run day but I was exhausted from the week and all it’s stress so I decided not to run, guilt was terrible but perhaps it was for the best.
Today I went out and ran 9k I didn’t think it was possible and was worried it might affect my shoulder but I took it I thought slow and steady but ran it in 1 hour and 4 mins so pretty pleased with myself.
I listened to Alan Carr podcast on the way round so was immersed and giggled all the way round, still have a very stiff right shoulder but could just be the stress?
I am really enjoying the plan it’s good to have some direction so big thank you to the Ju Ju Magic 10K plan.

I often got frozen shoulder and my old yoga teacher would always say, “keep it moving!” Then he’d give me special poses to do to relieve it. They hurt more than just having the frozen shoulder but it worked.
Pain, if you have it, might be due to a number of things, impingement, rotator cuff injury, sore tendons… each require different therapies. Or it’s just tiredness and stress.
If you’re aware of your shoulders around your ears while running, it’s good to get them down again. I try to release tension by breathing out hard a few times, getting the air out from the very pit of the lungs. If there’s no one about I literally shout, HA! with each out breath (each with the count of three or four steps). It often works.
Unless you're clinging onto a phone or water bottle or something else with your right hand, I'd say it's unlikely that running is causing the shoulder problem. It's more likely that the culprit is either or both of work stress and computer overuse.
Running might, however, make you more aware of stresses that you're carrying in your body, as well as relieving them. At least that's true for me - I have absolutely no medical or other training to justify this opinion!
I'm not medically qualified in anyway, but I did have a frozen left shoulder years ago and I believe physical activity helped cure it. GP signed me off for a week, and when I looked online I read stories of people having the problem for years. I wasn't having that so every day I went for a 6 mile walk in the morning and then again in the evening. To begin with it hurt like hell but by the end of the week all was well. My GP did put my recovery down to me being so active.
Yes I’ve had one before the other side and movement is best! I had physio on that it got so bad so I know I have to move. Think I’m just a stress head.
So sorry you are having to deal with blistering boneheads every day! It might help to do a few shoulder shrugs before a run, and letting those shoulder blades relax back and down after each one. Then check in on your posture a few times during the run, to make sure they are still relaxed, back and down. Hope you find something to help 🤞
Well done on the run, great time! I found when I first started running that I was exacerbating the issues in my neck and shoulders caused by poor posture at my desk for 11-12 hrs a day - I wasn’t good at keeping my head up and looking forward etc so I felt worse after running even though that wasn’t the actual cause. So I’ve really focused on yoga to improve my posture and been much more conscious of my running posture and that’s helped the issues at my desk too. Good luck!
I’m normally good at following Adrienne and her monthly routine but life and work have been in the way so proves I need to make room for yoga and no skipping it!
Well done on the 9k! It's definitely harder to fit the runs in on top of travel time with the return to work. Harder still with added stress of rude people. Hopefully the yoga will help with shoulder stretches (making a mental note here to do some myself 😄). An extra rest day seems like a good thing to me and your time for the run is great so it really paid off!
