The accidental 10k!!!!!!!

Today was meant to be my first 8k of ju-ju’s plan. I planned the route and built myself up to it all week. I was really nervous this morning but thought well I did 7k last week it’s only 1k more, this is just the gremlins waking up - let’s run before they get hold!

Anyway I only went and got lost at about 6k and I think you can tell where this was on the map. When I say lost I mean really lost. I finally got back on track at the 8k mark (2k of running in circles!!!). I felt pretty good and was about 2k from the car so just thought if I slow things down I could do this - and what do you know I did it.

This really wasn’t the way I wanted to get to 10k but I’ll take it 😁 I think I may pay for it this week so may have a week off with just a couple of slow recovery runs. So so chuffed!

Cheers matey - you better believe I will. Despite a good post run stretch and a bath - I can feel things tightening up as I type :)

Rolling, rolling, rolling. 👍

Brilliant! Cracking pace for 10k too.

Thanks wyersmith - I'm not sure I believe the pace tbh. I've just started using Strava instead of Runkeeper and I think there may be some difference between the two as I didn't 'feel' as if i was running at that pace. Chuffed nonetheless :)

Well done! We are never lost, just sometimes temporarily uncertain of our position...

Cheers Jay. I ended up in an estate that was still being built and couldn’t find my way out. I decided to backtrack and eventually I recognised the right path. Hope all is going well for you.

Thanks :) I'm still in a state of shock - I must admit the last 1k was difficult - my legs were definitely wobbling a little

Well done - there are benefits to getting lost, I guess! Great time for your first 10k too!👍🙂

Thanks Sandra - I can’t get over the time. I’m not sure if it’s correct. Just started using Strava instead of Runkeeper and I have a sense of the pace from using RK. Anyway I ran 10k and that’s great for now 😃😃🥂🥂😃😃

It certainly is! Cheers!🥂🙂

Oh huge well done Paul!! Regardless of time ( accurate or not) you covered 10k. Definitely rest for a couple of days and I'm sure the afterglow of the achievement will last that long too :) :)

I use Run-keeper but recently downloaded Strava but have stayed with Run-keeper at the moment as I've built trust in it over the past four months plus I've entered a virtual challenge of 50 miles for August and don't trust my technical ability to transfer data across..lol..

Thanks for that Lorijay. I’ve always liked Runkeeper- but thinking about it I may keep both and only post the one which gives the best time/distance 😂

Hey I like that idea! 😁

Ha ha - it's amazing how many of us run our first 10k having set out to run something less. For me it happened because I had to take a diversion around a field of bullocks!

Well done - bet you feel great and so you should - especially with that time!

Lol - I had a close encounter with a herd of sheep on this one 🐑🐑🐑🐑 The more I think about it the more I think the time may be right. At 7k my time today was around 42 mins - it was 44mins last week (after a late night and one too many red wines 😜) so I reckon it was pretty close to the mark. Not sure I’ll be repeating it in a hurry though!!

Thanks Dexy5 - very chuffed to have 2 graduations and don't feel anywhere as sore as I was expecting this morning :)

That happened to me too. I jumped from 8 to 10k accidentally. Well done for that terrific milestone!

Thanks FlickM3 - out of interest what did you do after the accidental increase - did to reign back the distance a little or was it a case of keeping with the 10ks?
