Slow run in the cold

I’m slowly working my way through Ju-ju’s plan. First 7k was pretty straightforward and a good pace. Went out yesterday for a repeat 7k run and it was long and slow and my legs felt tired. I felt a bit disheartened - wanted to give up from half way round which is unlike me- I didn’t though- I did finish it. Haven’t had a run like that in a while. Is it the cold do you think? It was REALLY cold and windy...

I had a very similar run a few weeks ago BOS, and posted on here about it. Like you, I didn’t give up, but I disliked every step. It turns out that it happens to most runners at some point for all different reasons.

I put mine down to more hill running than usual, leg fatigue, not enough hydration etc. But yours could be the cold, not enough sleep, diet, hydration etc. Maybe just one of those things. Personally I stepped back for about a week and didn’t run. I came back far stronger. Good luck, and at least you completed your 7k. 😀

Thanks. That’s reassuring to hear. Thought I was just getting old!! Might rest an extra day or two and see if that helps.👍

Yes I found having 2 rest days before the long ones helped. Sadly not every run is fantastic. But I t makes it all the better when they are.

Sigh, yep, I’ve had *those* sorts of runs too. The wind and cold probably didn’t help, but there are so many factors that can influence how a run can go, sometimes no point trying to figure it out (but, it can be worth looking at what you ate and drank the day before).

The good news is you finished it, the even gooder news is, this run will make you stronger! (That’s what I always believe). It is no indicator of how your next run will go, so don’t dwell on it.

👏👏👏

Cold and windy makes any run hard... and sometimes we have bad runs, rest up and the next one will be better 😎
