Long time taken to post this (sorry long post) but issues with not being able to on my laptop have prevented me from doing so before now but I'm still unable to comment on other posts. Well, what can I say, running the Monsal 10k with Bluebirdrunner and meeting everyone else was a dream which came true. Magical doesn't cover it! Bucket list ticked off!

I arrived in the UK to spend time with my cousin to sadly discover that her MIL had taken a turn for the worse and she sadly passed away the next morning, meaning I had to move to a hotel. She was nearly 101 and up until her last few weeks was still on her iPad Facebooking and Skyping. Her funeral was yesterday where she had banned black clothes and colourful clothes and glitter were to be worn instead, a wonderful old lady .

So there I was in a hotel, jet lagged and not safe behind the wheel of my rental car and Cantstopmenow got in touch and came out of her way to pick me up and take me out to Lytham for fish and chips and a walk along the sea front and on another day to take me out to Haigh Hall, where we ran a not parkrun for just over 6km, it was good to get my legs moving again after so much sitting down in planes and airports (over 27 hours flight time alone). Thank you so much for your kindness and your company.

On to Chester for a few days and then to Trentham Gardens where I stayed in a Premier Inn on site so I could run the Trentham Gardens parkrun, along with nearly a 1000 others! around the lake and through some of the woodland, what a beautiful setting.

Sandie1961 and Mr S had very kindly invited me to stay with them for a few days, where Sandie took me to Lincoln Castle, we dined on fish and chips in a lovely restaurant in Whitby, definitely earned after walking up and down those 199 steps! followed by a visit to Bempton Cliffs, (amazing to see all those birds clinging to the cliffs) and Robin Hood's Bay and then before an English afternoon tea at Doddington Hall, a not parkrun walk. I couldn't believe all that food was just for me! I polished most of it off and it was delicious I had such a lovely time Sandie and Mr S thank you both so much.

Down to Derbyshire where Bluebirdrunner and I met for the first time and a few happy tears shed, with your support on HU and Strava the last 4 years has been constant. I feel so privileged to have spent time with you and your family over the last few days, going around Chatsworth and riding the Monsal Trail the day after our run, where we saw Dexy5 and @UTS lovely to see you both again too. Run/walking the Monsal 10k with you was so much fun, the 2:2 ratio soon forgotten, with chats and laughs. I know you missed Floss, but I felt she was there with us and we 3 crossed the line together, it was just so touching to be clapped in by everyone.

It was so good to see you again too Linda and to meet GTFC Tasha99 cheekychipmunks TailChaser Katnap Shake-and-run for the very first time was brilliant. It's been amazing to see your activities on Strava and now to have met you all in real life, I'm still pinching myself. Sorry this is such a long post, but there were so many highlights I had to mention them all.

This trip to travel from New Zealand to run the Monsal 10k has exceeded every expectation I had. Thank you everyone, I doubt anything will ever measure up to this experience again ❀️ xx

Well, what a trip that was for you lexi6 but what a sad way to start it, with a bereavement 😒 My grandma made it to 104 and it wasn’t until her last few months that she moved into a nursing home. She was a tough lady- perhaps that generation were more resilient, or didn’t have such bad diets as people have these days?

Sounds like you have some great memories of your journey across the world and meeting some of our HU friends πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈβ€βž‘οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ€βž‘οΈπŸ₯³

Hope you recover from the jet lag etc. quickly and you can back out again soon!

Thanks -David-G I'm sure you're right they were a tough breed that generation weren't they? she was fortunate to have been able to live in her own home, with help from family, until the very end. I have some lovely memories to take home and a new focus once I get back to maintain fitness and return and run it again 🀞

It was wonderful to be able to spend so much time getting to know you better and to be able to introduce you to a handful of English icons. At least with us around behind the camera lens you’ve got some photos of yourself to remind you πŸ˜‚

It was Sandie and thanks for all those photos you took, my selfies are useless, so I didn't even try. The photos are a wonderful reminder of this most memorable holiday ❀️

Its been quite full on lexi6 hasn't it!

The loss of your cousins MIL although expected was very sad. You were however, out on a limb a bit because of this when you first arrived.

Spending some fun time with Cantstopmenow then staying with Sandie and Mr S for some real treats helped you to relax a bit. Sleeping with that jetlag has been a real issue though hasn't it.

I can't believe you did Trentham gardens parkrun! The number of participants was huge!

I did shed a happy tear when we met, and hoped you would like the shoe tags 'she believed she could.....so she did!' that Oldfloss and I both also wear...

Our run was really fun, comfortable and relaxed. It might not have looked like it on that final run in, but I could have gone on all day!

The cycling on Monday was perfect too, super fun and a good for our legs (but not other parts πŸ˜‰)

Run done, I hope you can chill out and enjoy what the Lake District has to offer, before I see you again for Kew Gardens. (No, everyone, not a running event but a stroll in the sunshine!)

I am so happy that you came all that way to join the fun, and we got chance to spend that time together.

Struggling to get on HU again to reply BBr but at last I've managed to get on (not sure what's going on there} , the tags you gave me are perfect thank you and mantra already adopted, they'll be worn with pride. The cycle ride, so memorable too and my "bottie" has now forgiven me. What an amazing few days I've had, the jet lag worth every moment, can't wait to see you again at Kew. xxx

Oh lexi6 this post got me (sniff sniff) to make the gargantuan effort you did to come over and run with HU friends is really touching πŸ’™ To take what happened within your family and get through the funeral yesterday is testament to the person you are.

As you know, this very forum changed my life so I'll always be grateful for it and the people on it.

You've certainly gained experiences and made memories on this trip and I'm so happy for you. It really was absolutely wonderful meeting you πŸ™Œβœ¨οΈ

Sadly GTFC I couldn't make the funeral, as I had to get up here to the Lake District and I missed the live feed of the funeral as well πŸ₯² she had a long, happy life and for her and her family a release, she was one very strong lady. Meeting you and Tasha99 was such a thrill and I'm taking home such wonderful memories of my Monsal trip and even getting to run with GTFC 😊

I’m sorry, I didn’t realise your plans with your cousin had been changed lexi6 . But I’m so pleased that Cantstopmenow , Sandie1961 and Bluebirdrunner were able to fill that void and give you the happy holiday you needed and deserved.

It’s probably 6 years since we last met up and I swear you look younger now. If you were to run one race in the UK, this was definitely the one to do! There was no pressure to run it fast, just laughing, chatting and enjoying the lovely views- just perfect.

You are now in another of our favourite locations. Do enjoy the Lake District and the rest of your trip. πŸ₯°

Yes it wasn't unexpected, but still a shock for the family. If you remember when I was here last time my uncle died unexpectedly πŸ₯². The Lake District is beautiful, I've had a lovely time, heading back tomorrow. Cantstopmenow Sandie1961 Bluebirdrunner made my holiday extra special and I will have lovely, lovely memories of the 10k and the HU meetup forever πŸ₯°

Hi Lexi It's been lovely to see you and spend time in your company. I'm so sorry it was under such sad and difficult circumstances at the start of your holiday.

You've made up for it and had some great adventures, topped by Monsal last week. I loved the grin and raised arms as you and BBR ran across the finish line - well done! Glad the Lakes has been good too. See you soon xx

How did I miss this lovely post and string of responses! Too busy nursing a slightly damaged knee and grievously injured pride after a little fall! Your meet up was clearly magical; old friends, new friends, the North East coast, good food, oh and a little run thrown in for good measure. Everyone who met you clearly felt that it was a privilege and the enjoyment you shared just shines through. So sad that you lost your cousin whilst you were here, but good that you could join what sounds to have been a fitting celebration of the person she was. A very special visit for everyone who met you.

Thanks so much Beachcomber66 I hope your knee is on the mend. It really has been a wonderful trip as you say meeting old and new friends, being part of the HU meet up very special. I'd really love to do it again, the heart's willing and I just need to keep these old legs of mine going too. πŸ₯°
