It’s another (not) parkrun report!

(Not)parkrun takes a bit more organising under the current ‘meet only one other person’ rules but this morning seemed a good opportunity for Coddfish and I to have a slow trot together and a bit of a chat - because I can finally hold a (brief!) conversation and run at the same time . Well, I can manage a sentence or 2 before I have to gasp for air again! We headed west into the wind, through the trees along ‘Ladies Mile’ then across the common and back along the seafront with the wind behind us to finish. It wasn’t a fast 5k at 47:36 but I’m struggling with a niggly hip which seems to be ok when I run but not when I walk, so I’ll take that time thank you! I took a few pics of the swans on our boating lake as I did a warm up walk and counted 62 altogether. That’s a lot of swans! Happy running peeps!

Great little run for the 2of you, wow that is a lot of swans. We passed our little “lake” yesterday 2 swans, 3 cygnets all in a little bit of water, ducks wandering around on the ice😂. Happy running 🤗

That's a lot of swans 😊Glad you managed to get it organised despite the new rules. How the hip improveds.

And you've reminded me to post my not parkrun time 👍😊

That is a lot of swans and not a bad time,I’ve run it slower

So have I - and I know I can do it a bit faster! Hey ho!

And we can

My goodness me OGR, 62 swans, that's a lot, you have taken lovely photos of some of them

Sorry that you have to gasp for air when you are running and talking at the same time, IannodaTruffe our expert here on C25K is aways telling runners if you are gasping for breath while running you are going too fast, you should run at a comfortable pace and be able to speak to another runner without gasping, perhaps you were running a little too fast, however, apart from that I am glad that you enjoyed your (not) parkrun today.

Well gasping was probably a bit of a stretch Alan but there was a time when I could barely grunt a word so I feel there’s some improvement!

That sounded a lovely sociable run even if a bit gaspy. That was quite a mega swan count! Sorry about the hip but you did your 5k and that was a fine time - the main thing was getting out there!!

Yes I haven’t been out for 10 days thinking I’d rest my hip a bit but it didn’t really work out as planned! Hey ho, phone the physio tomorrow!

62 swans? Whoa, that’s a lot OGR! 🤣 🦢

Well done on braving the elements you two. It’s hard getting out at the moment - this weather isn’t the best for running, but still we get out! 👏👊🏃‍♀️😀

We certainly have a bumper crop of swans this year and canoe lake seems to have become their day time meet up point now the winter weather and lockdown has reduced the quantity of humans and dogs in the area. Fortunately they don’t have to worry about social distancing. When I set off home, 2 of the swans were standing at the park side of the crossing looking as if they wanted to use it to cross over to the seafront side. Definitely made me laugh.

No after effects from the run, I trust.

Well done Oldgirlruns, not a nice morning for running.

I dragged myself out, knowing I wasn’t really up

for it. I must have taken Geoff Galloway as my one other person as I had so many walking breaks on my 5k route.

I spotted 10 ducks at canoe lake too. It looked pretty crowded out there. I think word has got around that there’s food to be had . 🦢🦆🦢🦆🦢🦆🦢🦆

Yes, strange how there are seldom any ducks to be seen on our little lake isn’t it?!

They’ve probably heard that cold weather is coming in and don’t want to get frozen in situ.

Sounds like a good run 👍

...and I’d be happy with that time for me! 🥰

OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to LottieMW

Thanks Lottie , I was happy with it really, I just dream of a 45 min 5k and possibly even 40 min one day but I don’t seem to be making much progress! As UpTheStanley will no doubt tell me - I just need to get my legs moving faster and extend my stride a bit!

😂

I’m not likely to see much improvement in times whilst in Lockdown ☹️

Hope your hip gets itself sorted 🤞🏼

Very wise to opt for Ladies Mile and avoid the prom into the wind OGR. Hope the niggly hip while walking settles down - otherwise you may have to run everywhere!😜

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to JonathanP

Oh crikey, I hadn’t thought of that JP! Actually, although it was windy it was nothing like as bad as some gales we’ve run in!

Elfe5 profile image

That sounds a lovely run OGR - and conversation too - yes! 😄 (I have just discovered that I can do that too, with my daughter home from Uni. Back in the summer she had to do all the talking!) I love the way that there are so many things to celebrate around running. 😄I hope that naughty hip settles down. 😘😘

Sounds like a nice run OGR and good that you could meet up with Coddfish . All my runs currently are totally on my own 😥 Good for Mindfulness though!

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

It makes a lovely change for me Sandie as I usually run on my own as well. And she’s very good at keeping me at a steady pace!

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10

Thanks Elfe; I think admitting to a proper conversation would probably put me in breach of the trades description act but a chat , well that’s ok!

A lovely 5k and soooo many swans 😮🦢🦢 what a nice way to spend a Thursday 😊

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Forest_Run_Beginner

It was FRB but it didn’t do my hip any good so it’s back on the IC for a few days until I can sort it out!

Forest_Run_Beginner profile image
Forest_Run_BeginnerGraduate10 in reply to Oldgirlruns

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope a few days rest will sort it out for you but if not, make sure you get it checked out 🤞😊

Lovely run OGR. Swans are wonderful graceful creatures, except when they decide to have the occasional punch up ! Apart from park run, and one road race, I do all of my running alone...must find someone I can keep up without losing the power of speech!!🙂

I just had to Google the collective noun for swans -swans – a gaggle of swans

swans (flying) – a wedge of swans

swans – a bank of swans

swans – a bevy of swans

swans – a whiteness of swans

swans – a herd of swans

swans – an eyrar of swans

swans – a gargle of swans

Lovely words, lovely run OGR! 😃

I’m Late to the party again but I do hope you’re hip is showing improvement. These things are so frustrating . I’m just catching up on the forum , weather has been icy and only just managed to get back to some running . As such I’ve been quite out of sorts really 🙄😂🏃🏻‍♀️ Swans are such a happy sight 😊

Thanks Racing, fortunately I have a physio appt this week which hopefully will give me some idea of what’s wrong and what I can do to fix it! You’re so right about swans, they are beautiful!
