Good morning everyone. It is Saturday again which means it is (not)parkrun day. It is awful where I am weather wise this morning. There is a proper storm blowing over, high winds and heavy rain. I will get out for my run today but I'm going to wait for a couple of hours. My boys wanted a take away Pizza last night so we got one as a treat. I have to run that off me.
For anyone looking at this and wondering what am I on about, a group of us here every Saturday and Sunday run 5K, we pretend it is our parkrun. We pop back here after our run and we write a little run report. It is just a bit of fun and little bit of motivation for us to keep running until the real parkrun does return. Everyone is welcome to join in and walk, jog or run 5K. So come along and join in.
Stay safe everyone and Happy running. Oh and Happy Halloween.

Morning again Damien and everyone. Hereβs my reaction to my (Not) PR completed just now ..... π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
I had a blast, I loved it. Driving wind and the rain got heavier and heavier as the time went on. The grass had puddles and it was getting slick. What a hoot. My time? π€£π€£π€£π€£ 40:01! Close to 7 minutes slower than my (Not) PR PB, but it was possibly the most fun! π¦π¨π¦π¨π¦π¨π¦π¨π¦π¨π¦
Not sure Flossie agreed though - I have one drenched little dog at the moment! Sheβs a Lab, sheβs designed for getting wet (she doesnβt agree!!)
Enjoy your runs everyone. Iβd say stay dry .... but really itβs fun getting wet! π¦π¦
I just love your love for just getting out there , whatever the weather, cheeky. I did look out at 7.00 when it was dry, but a boozy (within Ruleβs) night out made that a bit of a bad idea. Now itβs pouring!
Thanks Dexy. I think Iβm just a little bit nuts thatβs all! Iβd primed myself knowing the forecast was awful and just embraced the whole experience with no expectations of a good time - just as well! π€£
I know exactly where youβre coming from cheeky - it makes you feel alive, and at the moment thatβs a very important thing!!! Fabulous ππππ
Well done. I'm just about to go now Cheeky. 50 mph winds and rain has kind of blown off, but very heavy showers about. I'm hoping that the 50 mph wind is on my back for the steep hill. No PB attempt today. Just get around. Well done to you again Cheeky.
Morning Damienair, it certainly is a bad day weather wise. To avoid flying debris from the trees.. I decided to run in the rain yesterday which I posted about. So glad I did as we have been up since 3am with our elderly neighbour. Ambulance had to be called out twice yesterday after a fall. Unfortunately he had to be taken in to hospital at 4.30am for an X-ray when my husband and I and his wife were unable to get him up to be able to get to the toilet. We are hoping he will be ok as itβs a scary time to be admitted at the moment with all thatβs going on. Yesterday I ran 10k, the second half of my run was the fastest. I ran that 5k in 38.59. Hope your run goes well later. Keep safe everyone and happy running.
Yep I hear ya. I'm going to go now soon. Just trundle around, no speed training or PB attempt. 50 mph wind will be tough. Then have a shower and watch the Rugby too.
Hi Dexy5, I love the idea of a Storm Force 10 wind at the coast, high tide and seeing the large waves, of course at a safe distance, not a site I would see living 40 miles from the coast.
Morning Damien, for the very reason that you described the weather, Storm Aiden got me to run my 33rd virtual, which was my 20th not parkrun yesterday, I have now ran 50 parkruns, 17 official and 33 virtual ones,
I ran No 50. on the same route that I officially became a runner, run 3 of week 6, my pace yesterday was 6.54km giving me a time of 34.29, I notice looking back on my pace when I ran, run 3 of week 6 it was 8km, so I am a little faster than I was two years ago, I hope the weather will improve enabling you to get your (not) parkrun ran ππΎ
Thanks TailChaser, yes with the possibility of official Parkruns not resuming until well into next year or 2022 they could think of sending out T shirts for (not) parkrun.
Well do0ne Al on your run yesterday. I'm about to pop out now. With 50 mph winds I think the paths will be quiet today. I'm dreading it. But as with all runs I'll be happy afterwards.
Of all the people who deserve a (Not) PR 50th teeshirt, it must be you AlMorr ! We can all set our watches by you. Your commitment deserves to be recognised! Brilliant running. πππ₯
Thank you very much for your post cheeky, I do wear my Vitality Parkrun T-shirt on most of the runs I run on a Saturday at (not) parkrun, I am happy to know that you set your watches before you run by me, ha, that's nice to know.
Hi damienair and VRBs. I did my (not) Parkrun this morning in not-so-sunny Bognor Regis on the south coast. It was windy but not cold along the seafront. It wasnβt wet either, although it is now, so I made the right choice of running time!π
It was never going to be a fast run in those conditions but I got round in 34:35 which Iβm happy enough withππ
Morning Damien! Iβve not managed a Saturday (not)parkrun for a while as I have been busy half marathon training, so running on other days. But I did manage to get out this morning as my last short run before the big day next week!
It was wet and windy here too although strangely quite warm. Most weird thing though - I passed a beer bottle running the other way!!
Oh, and I also managed my best (not)parkrun time since June, just under 31 minsπ
Hi Damien, no I haven't had a personality transplant posting this early! Yesterday I took one look at the weather forecast for today and decided to do my (not) parkrun a day early - bit of a wimp compared to cheekychipmunks !π Mind you , the fact that we were planning a takeaway curry last night might also have had something to do with it!
Anyway I had a very enjoyable run yesterday - a bit of fine rain but nothing like today. I'm really getting the hang of these negative splits (6.13,6.11,6.00,5.57,5.35) and finished up with 29.50.
Wow fantastic run JonathanP ! Youβre the smart one running a day early, youβre certainly not a wimp - itβs just that Iβm more than a little bit bonkers! π€£
Very well done Jonathan, that is fantastic running. Negative splits is brilliant and you got a great finish time. I hope the curry was lovely. I adore curry, Iβd eat it everyday.
Hiya Damien and all! Weβve been out and attacked the weather. Very stormy out there but it has to be done!! Funnily enough, not as many cars or dog walkers today...
The hill was interesting as the wind decided to go against us all the way up and as it only turns 90 degrees at the top we had a cross wind as we went down again. Still, this weather is a great distraction to run in so didnβt really think much about how heavy I was breathing or how sore my Achilles is (again) so I enjoy it, maybe not so much as cheeky π€£, but I do enjoy it! Pleased with time of 29:03 and lots of Halloween Garmin badges!
To be honest cheeky, I really donβt know how that happened! I think my legs are on automatic when they start doing the route. π€¦π»ββοΈπ€£ Iβm going to attempt to slow it down tomorrow π€
Well done TailChaser. Yes it was quiet out there today, 5 walkers and 5 runners on my route today. Leaves π flying through the air. I luckily had the wind on my back running up my hill today. Well done on your time and the Garmin badges.
I have had a few badges the last few days, as well as the Halloween and October ones. Walk the walk 5 plus the 60 day and 10000 step badges which are repeatable.
I really, really donβt like running in wind and rain, so I didnβt πππ Might see how it is tomorrow. Well done to those of you mad enough to go out today ππ»ππ»ππ»
Best of luck tomorrow Sandie. I donβt mind the wind as much as the driving rain. I got a nice break today when I went at lunch time. It was windy but I didnβt get wet.
Morning Damienair, but what a morning!_wind, rain, puddles,no people...I enjoyed it so much even though the wind was making the flat feel like I was running up hill. Sounds cheesy but I just found it so liberating.
I have just started on week 3 of the distance plan with the 7k run.
Last 5k were by far the fastest clocking up time 33:42. Not my fastest but happy with that and so enjoyable.( As was the post run shower and breakfast).
Well done. I was dreading my run today, but really enjoyed it too. Iβm feeling stronger. I must try a nice slow longer run tomorrow. 7K is a great distance. Best of luck on your longer runs.
The forecast was for the heavy rain at 11am, so we went out at 8.40. It was windy but dry and not at all cold. The usual (n)pr route, ran 6km then it started to pour down just in time for a 2km walk back up the hill.
For some reason I didn't fancy our usual bacon, egg and mushroom toastie - so we dripped into the cafe for the mini-mega breakfast (hold the black pudding, we'll have extra mushrooms please!)
We had stuffed light jumpers into our waist packs so we soon warmed up with our hot drinks.
The rain held off for our walk home to nice hot showers but it has got wetter and windier in the last half hour.
Well done. Your so lucky to be able to have a (not)parkrun breakfast after your run in a cafe. Everything is shut here unless itβs takeaway. Looking forward to a real parkrun and post parkrun breakfast someday.
I ran Wk 5 R2 today so still including some walking as I come back from injury, but next Week is my W5 R3...and that will be something I will want to share! I covered more than 5k today including warm up and down and loved it even though the rain came down. Two lots of 8 mins running with a five minute walk in between. I felt good, and strong and didn't NEED to stop at the end of the intervals which was great!
Absolutely soaked when I got home, but one very happy runner.πββοΈπ§ππxxx
Absolutely. Of course you can join in. Everyone is welcome. Well done on completing Week 5 Run 2 today. Itβs hard returning from injury but I guess easier in a way than doing it the first time, you did 5K which is fantastic. Iβve done loads of intervals recently as part of my 5K Training. Best of luck for next week.
Good luck to all non park runners out in that weather today.
Have you ran that pizza off? I was on the starting line waiting, hmmmmmm chop chop.... I woke off night shift grabbed breakfast, and was off not a park run done, caught a lucky break with the weather π 26.24 π
Great time. Very well done. Itβs been just over a year since I was last running that pace. But I broke 30 mins today which I am very happy with. I ran that Pizza π off alright.
The mind is a funny thing. I was dreading my run today. I was not looking forward to going out into a storm with 50 mph winds. However I had a great run. One of the best in a long time. I had no goal, just trundle around the 5K loop and get it done. But at 1K my watch beeped, I thought I was doing a nice gentle jog, but I was after doing the first kilometre in 5:59 mins. Then I turned into a 50 mph headwind, both my 2nd and 3rd kilometers were into the wind and I logged exactly 6:19 min/km for both, then I turned over the bridge to an uphill stretch, but had a 50 mph tailwind now, it was almost lifting me off the ground. Even with a good uphill stretch my pace increased thanks to the tail wind and lap 4 was done in 5:47 min/km. As I turned for the final kilometre a girl I once knew from the Athletics club passed me by. She was really pushing hard, so I decided to try and follow her and use her as a pacemaker from the other side of the road. It worked, I was exhausted but still strong and finished in a time of 29:22. Happy Halloween everyone. I wore an Orange T-Shirt for the Pumpkins.
Thanks to the wind and that girl from the athletes club you ran a sub 30 minute 5k, well done, you were hoping to get under 30 minutes by the end of October and today you did, happy Halloween to you Damien.
I dodged the showers this morning and kept dry. Although I only ran for 28 minutes during which I covered 4.3km, somehow by including part of the warm-up walk I actually covered 5km in 35'16" according to Strava. And it rained heavily about 15 minutes after I got home.
I meant to post yesterday. I ran a lovely 5k on Wednesday evening with a group. It was my first time running in the dark and with a group. One member was running her C25K graduation run. It was great to do that run with her. I went out for a (not) parkrun on Friday with a time of 32:07. I was please with that run.
This morning I went out for a longer run. I had planned a 12k run with no thought of time. Once home I noticed I had achieved a 5k PB of 28:54. I finally managed to achieve a sub 30 min 5k. Not only did I achieve a 5k PB but I achieved a sub 1 hour 10k PB with a time of 59:46. Over all I feel that I have had a great running week.
Afternoon all. Today was meant to be an easy run according to my Garmin coach plan but I got a bit confused about how long it was meant to be (I thought it was 30 minutes plus warm up and cool down walks, which would have been about perfect for 5k, but it turned out to be 40mins of running) and of course what's easy for 20 minutes isn't the same as easy for 40 minutes. Plus my route was too short which resulted in uphill diversions and an additional 50m of elevation.
But I got round in good order. I was listening to the Nike Run Club "Run with Paula [Radcliffe]" - it is very inspiring, though I was a bit daunted at the point when she was talking about her pace in mile 3 of her record-setting marathon - I think I managed to get up to that speed for 20 seconds down a hill today, and my brain just couldn't compute the idea of going that fast for 26 miles!
Anyway, it turned out a bit longer than the 5kish run I had planned, but not complaining about 6.38k in 40 minutes with a new 1k PR of 5.12
Iβm glad I left my (not) parkrun until today. Lovely sunny morning (the rain arrived this afternoon) although it was surprisingly warm and still a strong wind. I started well with negative splits for the first 3k - 6.37, 6.23, 6.22, then the wind got me and I did 6.34 and 6.37 for a nice little Strava hill shape. Total 32.47, continuing my sequence of 32 minute 5ks. At least I stayed dry ππ
I deferred my run until today too. It was still raining and blowing a gale; not 50 mph though!! I went for my 5k hill route, and deliberately slowed things down.,,,except for the steep downhill bits of course !! ..... I was pleased to restrict myself to 34:54 ....I need some long slow runs now as my target is to get back to HM before Christmas. I feel a quest coming on!!π
